Fracking opponents will be devastated.

quote:

The study, done by the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh, marked the first time that a drilling company let government scientists inject special tracers into the fracking fluid and then continue regular monitoring to see whether it spread toward drinking water sources. The research is being done at a drilling site in Greene County, which is southwest of Pittsburgh and adjacent to West Virginia.

quote:

Drilling fluids tagged with unique markers were injected more than 8,000 feet below the surface, but were not detected in a monitoring zone 3,000 feet higher. That means the potentially dangerous substances stayed about a mile away from drinking water supplies.

"This is good news," said Duke University scientist Rob Jackson, who was not involved with the study. He called it a "useful and important approach" to monitoring fracking

The coal lobby/environmentalist lost the fracking debate a while ago IMO.

This is one well.

Study ten. Then get back to me.

Forty percent of fracked wells have issues, so 1 study on 1 well means nothing.

Who chose the well to be tested? There are too many incidents of possible contamination and too many variables of ground composition to run 1 fracking test and call it conclusive.

I'm anxiously anticipating the proof of this.

You said this:

quote:

This is one well.

Study ten. Then get back to me.

Then this:
quote:

Forty percent of fracked wells have issues,

Then this:
quote:

so 1 study on 1 well means nothing.

Do you see what you did?

So we are confident that 200 feet of dirt can control the Mississippi River but we are not confident that close to two miles of bedrock cannot hold back fracking fluids?

re: Fracking opponents will be devastated.

Here is what fracking has helped to create:

quote:

Energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in 2012 were the lowest in the United States since 1994, at 5.3 billion metric tons of CO2 (see figure above). With the exception of 2010, emissions have declined every year since 2007.

The largest drop in emissions in 2012 came from coal, which is used almost exclusively for electricity generation (see figure below). During 2012, particularly in the spring and early summer, low natural gas prices led to competition between natural gas- and coal-fired electric power generators. Lower natural gas prices resulted in reduced levels of coal generation, and increased natural gas generation—a less carbon-intensive fuel for power generation, which shifted power generation from the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel (coal) to the least carbon-intensive fossil fuel (natural gas).

This will not stop serious and sustained efforts from the Left to stop Fracking. The Left absolutely despises the notion of an energy independent USA that uses fossil fuels. They will never, ever stop their efforts to stop fracking.

I'm not a cracking opponent but that statement is asinine.

The levees do not stop Mississippi water from seeping at all.

In fact, most of the levees have drainage wells on the far side that pour out an absurd amount of water when the river is high.

I know. I said "control" not seeping. Point is a mile or two of bedrock is a pretty solid barrier to ground water intrusion, no?

I realize each well is different and is built in differing geology. It is a situation that needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. However, if fracking fluids enter the groundwater systems it's going to be because of casing failure not geological communication.

Furthermore, are facking fluids toxic? I suspect that fracking fluids mostly HCL. By the time the acid is injected and does it's job it's already neutralized and harmless.

It's one well so i'd say this doesn't prove shite.

Secondly while not an opponent to fracking I do think we need to keep studying more wells and make sure we aren't going to ruin our own water supplies. I can walk to work if I have to I can't drink poisoned water.

Ironic since the anti fracking lobby is backed by the industry that produces of the dirtiest fuels around.

Do these environmentalists know that they are being played like a fiddle?
