Yea, let's forget how well our freshman played the entire season. Nah, frick that. Let's only remember 2-3 games where they actually showed youth.

You're an idiot. Mills gained accolades as a freshman.

Collins may not have been good in that game, but it was Simon/Reid who gave up the second TD on the Moncrief slant pass, and it was Simon who gave up the TD pass to Moncrief on the free play. You can see it all on rnolan53's highlight vid.

ETA: It is also worth noting that Collins had an INT in that game. The ball bounced off Moncrief and Collins caught it. Not saying it was great coverage, but at least he caught the damn thing.

LSU vs Ole Miss:

Bo Wallace 60 yd TD run. Loston missed tackle. Reid horrible angle. Collins was the only 1 that was gaining groung on him.

Moncrief 55 yard TD catch. WTF was Simon doing??? Horrible angle by Reid. Collins opposite side of field. Moncrief is a stud though.

Bo Wallace 2 yd TD run. Ran right thru Reid. SMH

Mackey 7 yard TD run. We blitzed and Edwards went straight up field, leaving a huge hole. Just got caught in a blitz.

Moncrief 30 YD TD catch. Absolutely just burned Simon. Great pass by Wallace. Dropped it in perfectly over Martin.

So, how did Collins coverage almost lose us that game??Sneakbo, I think you meant Simons coverage on Moncrief. All game he got torched. Make sure when youre bashing someone you actually bash the right player.

People in here are dumbasses. Through most of the season most were calling for Simon to sit on the bench and Collins to take his spot because Collins was always in position on the deep balls. Our freshman DBs played good-great all things considered last year. Reid/Simon looked much worse than them in coverage.

Mills is going to be a stud if he isn't already. He was a steal for LSU's recruiting class.

Mills will be 2nd team All-SEC at least, IMO

Idk it was a free play and most of the LSU team thought it was dead. Simon probably stopped for a second and that cost us a TD.

Completely agree. By the end of the season, Mills and Collins were our top 2 DBs IMO.

Collins was on the freshman all SEC team and Mills freshman all american.

Collins was 3rd on the team in passes defended and had 2 huge INTs. 1 vs TAMU and the other vs Ole Miss that resulted in a Ware TD. Almost made 1 of the plays of the year IMO when he tipped that pass to Martin for an INT vs Idaho. Great field awareness and just an amazingly hard play to make.

Mills was as good a freshman CB ive seen when it comes to man to man coverage. Hes always on the WRs hip pocket. Made 1 mistake all season vs Bama that turned out to be the biggest mistake of the year for the defense. Yeldon sold the play perfectly. Mills was 1v1 with Yeldon with the option to blitz if Yeldon blocks. Yeldon went like he was blocking and Mills went after the QB. Then Yeldon turned around and the screen was set up perfectly. Tough play to make for a seasoned vet, let alone a TRUE freshman DB.

Doesnt matter. If he did stop its still a horrible play and still got burned. Every CB knows if a DL jumps offside and its a "free play" they are going to take shot in the end zone. if he held up for a second then its just a stupid dumb play by Simon.

Rewatched the play. Simon was playing 15 yards off him and never stopped. Moncrief ran right past him with ease.

It amazes me how all of a sudden we get a couple of promising freshmen( who some haven't even made it to campus yet) and our returning players start to suck. Collins was a freshmen! Redshirt or not. These players are freshmen coming in. Not even the great Patrick Peterson started from day one

Haha... doesnt really amaze me that much anymore as it used to. Bunch of dumb posters on here haha. We get a new shiny player and people think hes already better than what we got. And not just at the CB spot either. Its like a kid and a toy. Has a great awesome functional toy, but sees the new 1 that is shiny and wants it. Both do the same thing, its just newer and shiny.

Exactly. Every CB that has ever played at any level will get beat. Deion Sanders gets beat. Champ Bailey gets beat. Patrick Peterson gets beat. Mills gives up a TD and he all of a sudden sucks? Collins gives up 1 and he sucks too.

Collins and Mills will be the starters with Martin and Loston at FS. I know alot of people are excited about Sandolph and Thompson, but they wont be ahead of Loston or Martin. They are our 2 guys.

And Chavis has been GROOMING Collins for this year the past few years. He is harder on Collins at practice than any other DB. He likes to have a big, rangy, physical CB paired with a smaller ballhawk/playmaker. And he knows how great Collins can be. He is way more a CB than Simon was. Hes more flexible, better hips, and more physical. IMO, Collins blows up and could possibly go pro after this season. And, IMO, Mills has already blown up and will be a 1st-2nd round CB after his junior season.

Im pumped for White and Brazil too. RR shouldnt even be in the conversation considering hes not even on campus yet. Sure, he dominted NFL WRs at Patrick Petersons camp. Do you really think those NFL guys were going all out at PPs camp?? The kid has out of this world potential, but I think he redshirts. Needs to add weight. And just get on campus. White will be the NB though IMO.

Eugene will be the dime back. I think harrycolemanabeast said it. Eugene is a HELL of a football player. Might be our most versatile player on D. Can play CB, S, blitz and is a good tackler. I think he turns into a Ron Brooks type player on D where he doesnt bitch and moan about not starting and just goes about his work and produces. Big time ST too.

I didn't post that I think Collins will be passed because I thought I saw him get beat once by Ole Miss.

Collins came out of spring of 2012 as the starter and lost the starting job to a true freshman, Jalen Mills. So it's happened before.

This year, two true freshmen are coming in with physical skills I hear from reliable people are as good, and probably better, than Mills. Given White's high football IQ (and IQ in general), he should be ready to compete immediately with Collins for playing time. I hear he already has the defense figured out.

Given that I hear Tre'Davious is more physically gifted -- particularly in terms of pure speed and fluid hips -- it's going to be tough for Collins to hold him off.

And beyond that, I hear Robinson may be more physically gifted than even White. Given that the nickel role is more limited than the staring role, there's a decent chance Robinson picks up that assignment, making it tough for Collins.

I'm not against Collins playing, but I do think he'll have to be better than last year not because he was horrible, but because the general perception around LSU is they upgraded the talent at the position with this incoming class.

And there is depth there too. I was actually impressed by Holmes in the spring game.

Dude, alot of what you just said is false.

Collins was never pegged to be the starter for 2012. It was Simon and TM7. So, not sure where you got that he was pegged as a starter...

Collins was behind Simon after spring. Then, TM7 gets booted. So he was replaced with Mills. The system Chavis runs when it comes to CBs is 1 tall, rangy, physical true book end CB with a smaller playmaker/ball hawk. Collins was never pegged as the starter. Sorry. Dont know where you got that from.

So, our #3 CB from last year turns into the #4 this year when we lose a starter?? Right.. right... Now Holmes is better than Collins... And now 2 high schoolers are better than not just Collins, but Mills too. Who was the best freshman DB in the SEC last year and most likely the country and was a freshman all american. And also projected as a 1st rounder when hes eligible to go. But, the 2 high school players who have never played a down of college football are better than them. Wow. Down the road will White and RR be better than them?? Maybe. But they arent coming in better from day 1. Sorry. Not true.

Collins was horrible?? Where the frick are you people getting this crap from... Made the All SEC freshman team and was 3rd on the team in passes defended, but was horrible. Makes sense.

We got good looking DB prospects. Doesnt mean they are coming in and starting and will be an upgrade.

Sorry, Collins will be a full time starter all season.

You are correct. But given that TM7 was kicked off the team by the end of the first week of August, or thereabouts, it should have been Collins' spot to lose given that he came out of spring as the No. 3 cornerback.

Could be. LSU was a little thin at corner last year after Mathieu was booted and LSU did a great job addressing that need in recruiting. Again, it's not an insult to Collins, but a reflection of the talent they are bringing in.

Never said Holmes was better than Collins, just that he was impressive and LSU has depth at the position. I like the other young corners too, Raymond and Thomas. Somebody out of that bunch will eventually have to transfer for PT. They might have 4-5 NFL corners on that roster this year.

I specifically said Collins was NOT horrible. It's funny how you imagine insults that aren't there.

You may be right. But I just think White is that good. He's special. And Robinson is there too.

Understand, White isn't just a kind of good looking prospect. He isn't just a top corner in Louisiana coming out. He's a top 10 player nationally. He's a sharp kid. He competes his tail off.

Considering that both freshman outplayed Simon last year, I think we're in pretty good hands this year. I expect to see a lot of Corey Thompson this year too especially if Loston gets banged up again. White and Robinson are the heirs apparent to those positions in 2015 once Mills and Collins leave.

I am thinking the same thing but without an especially pending on an injury.

Craziest part to me is that Kevin Tolliver will be the best of all of them on day 1. Kid will start as a true freshman at LSU. He is PP7 reincarnate.

You have been all over his jock. I like him a lot but dude is what 30-40 pounds lighter than PP7? I hope you are right, it just seems early to say he is the next PP7 and they seem like they are built differently as well.

That list by graychef looks okay, but look for lots of playing time for Thompson, Robinson, Thomas and maybe Holmes.
