I read where CCA is putting one in Vermillion bay. What I did not know is there is already one. It's a limestone bottom in the bay, west of SouthWest Pass.

Anyone ever fish it???

Be careful. the pass goes from frickin deep as shite, to a 2 foot reef in no time at all.

The problem with the artificial reef near Redfish Point in Vermillion Bay is that unless the tide is high a typical offshore boat could hit the rip rap. I've fished it in a jon boat but getting to it was totally dependent on the weather. Any boat that "should" be out there is taking a risk by going into water that shallow with broken cement and rock at the bottom as opposed to mud.

We did OK but not great. There are better reefs, even in Vermillion Bay. Maybe in a couple more years it will be worth the risk.

If I can get the 25 foot Mexican panga of my dreams I will be fishing every shallow reef and offshore platform while sitting in a bean bag chair sipping cool drinks with umbrellas under my perfect shade canopy.

(I'm daydreaming here.)
