Buying online via local FFL dealer

I have only bought one firearm this way in the past but the guy was my neighbor way before all the hype.
What is the best way to do so? We all know online sales etc go fast. When I see something I like online do I have to run down to the FFL guy and tell him what I want and have him do all the paper work then? Or do I call to make the order and then run down to FFL guy?
I just need to know the way that works best. Deals go fast online these days.
Also can someone post some local FFL dealers that do not charge an arm and a leg. Fits in Slidell is 40 bucks. Kinda high.

Places like PSA will send you an email asking for info.
I always put my ffl's info in comments section. E-mail and phone/fax.
I never have any issues with this method.

So you fill out the info PSA wants and email it back. Will PSA then just mail the item to the FFL dealer?
Then do you go down to your FFL and tell them what you just ordered and fill out the background check and fees there?

i just bought a stripped lower off brownell's and that was the process. Buy it online, give the dealer your FFL's info. FFL should call you when it comes in, then pay for transfer at FFL and do the NICS background check. Then your done. It was pretty easy and probably a lot easier if you know your FFL guy personally and they can just give you whatever you need. I had to go through Barking Irons and it was really simple. What are you buying?

Tell your FFL guy via email what you bought, description, seller, sellers info. Put the FFL info in the email to the seller as well. They handle the rest of it. You pick it up, pay the fee, and there it is. Worked for me on many many online deals.

sounds great guys. Easy.
Looking for nothing special. I just see online deals from time to time or figure sometimes instead of looking in town for a hard to find item, just go online
Thanks

Gunbroker has a FFL search by zip code. Mine in Bay St Louis was $25 and the seller just ships the gun directly to them.

I bought stripped lowers from Palmetto State that way. Had my ffl send over a copy of their information and when ordering put in my local gun shops address for the shipping information. Went to shop when it came in and paid them a fee to transfer. Think they charged me $30.

Most of the time you can do the ordering up front, and take care of the details (FFL info) on the back end. If the deal is a hot one, just go ahead and order. I've had to occasionally have an actual license from my FFL emailed or faxed to the vendor i bought from (Primary Arms). Other vendors may have your specific FFL's license on file already. One of the best things you can do is search for an FFL that has the cheapest transfer. I found one right by my house that does them for $15.

Crawdaddy,
The exact process will be determined by the seller, but the general process is:
Find gun on 'net.
Buy gun on 'net (check, money order, credit card, etc.).
If the FFL is not already on record w/ the seller, the FFL will need to send his FFL to the seller.
Seller ships gun to the FFL.
Buyer completes the instant background check form w/ FFL, pays transfer fee to FFL (my local FFL charges $25) and leaves w/ gun.
Bud's charges a 3% processing fee if you buy the gun using a credit card. But they don't hold the gun for you pending the money; if you send a money order to save 3% and the last gun is sold before the money order arrives, you're not getting that gun.
Some sellers will ask that the FFL include the invoice # to help identify the order.
