I went to the top back in the summer of 2011. It was amazing.

I'd like to try that. The western states kicks the eastern states asses bad when it comes to natural beauty.

Been there. It's a nice hike. IMO Zion is the second most beautiful park behind Glacier NP.

I have. It isn't as dangerous as some make it out to be but if you're bringing kids, you'd better watch them real close.

re: Angel's Landing at Zion National Park

It is one of the crowning achievements of my life.

I went in 2010. The view from there is one of the best I have seen and I have been to all the National Parks of any interest in the USA outside Alaska.

The climb up using the cables and chains on the side of that cliff, and the walk across the narrow ridges is exhilarating to say the least. It is not dangerous but it looks like it is from a distance. It is not too gruelling - I was 72 in 2010 and had not problem.
-
While you are in Zion, don't miss walking the narrows - you will need water-hiking gear. It is beautiful.

OH - and there is a spotted owl nest just before you get to the first narrow ridge. There were two
chicks there when I went.

And I have lost all the photos I made of that trip. F.M.L.

Moab.

I love that place.

If you visit southern Utah (Zions/Bryce/Moab) and have the time, head over to southwest Colorado (right outside of Cortez) and check out Mesa Verde. I thought that was cool too.

Didn't do Angel's Landing, didn't have time. Did the narrows on my cross country moto trip in '11 and it was awesome.

Love love love Zion, definitely one of the best parks in the country.

Couldn't find any pics of the narrows, but heres some of the valley.

re: Angel's Landing at Zion National Park

Went to Zion last year on my way to Bryce Canyon to see the solar eclipse. Some of the best views anywhere, plus Zion is one of the very best National Parks.

Angel's Landing isn't really that hard to do and not dangerous either, it just looks like it. The trail is wider than a set of stairs all the way up, and when was the last time you fell off a stairwell with handrails? Sober, that is. Thousands climb it every year without a problem, NPS wouldn't open it to the public otherwise.

That said, it will scare you if you have any fear of heights at all, and I wouldn't let small children go.

Pro tip - wake up early and plan to start the hike at 8am. I truly feel sorry for the dumbasses who start right after lunch when it is 100 degrees.

Been to Zion a few times and did Angel's Landing once. It is def worth doing but not all that hard or scary as others mentioned. If you can hold onto the handrails/chains you'll be fine.

Hike up to Observation Point if you get the chance. You can explore Hidden Canyon on the way as well.

Observation Point:

And while you are there, check out Bryce Canyon too. As for Zion...i don't remember the name of the spot, but it was along one of the Canyon streams, and it was really beautiful there. Hope you and your son make it out that way

There were a few spots that were definitely skinnier than a set of stairs. There was those chains to hold onto though. It's definitely not a walk in the park. About 1 person every year dies on that hike.
