Without having multiple All Star players and a dominate big man to hold his hand every step of the way, Kobe is nothing more than just a another chucking shooting guard.

Soooo, should we just remove great teammates from every championship team and see if they would still win the title?

The two most recent championships were with average supporting casts . It was 1 superstar - Kobe, 1 good player - pau, and a bunch of role players (farmar, vujecic, fisher, Luke walton, shannon brown, ariza). The wild cards, Bynum and odom, only showed up 30% of the time.

Kobe had to go all out just to get those team to the finals. Think of all those tough series against nuggets, thunder, and suns and his late game clutch play.

2nd best Center in the league and the 6th man of the year are "wild cards"? Lol

So Kobe would have flamed out of the league years ago and gone broke? Aside from being half a foot taller, he and AI don't exactly resemble each other character wise

He would have never won a championship and still averaged around 27 pts his whole career.

And yes. He probably would have gone crazy. Phil helped keep him under control 1\2 the time. Who knows he might have been kicked out of the league for the whole rape thing if he was in milwaukee instead of LA.

And he has said and Phil has said in his books his only goal in life was to basically be better than MJ. If he stayed in Milwaukee and never won a ring he would have gone crazy.

eta.. I'm just throwing out random hypotheticals..

The point being is you cant just up and move a player to another team and just assume he would still be the same guy.

I love how you phrased this. Shannon Brown brought great energy off the bench. Bynum was more than above average when healthy, and I'm pretty sure Lamar Odom won 6th Man of the Year that year (I might be wrong, though).

Those Lakers teams had great depth, and it showed in the playoffs.

He's claimed that before.

Those Lakers teams were the most stacked in the league.

Best SG
Best Big
Second Best C
Best Sixth Man

Ariza and Artest weren't chopped liver.

I'm astounded that anyone would actually say that was an average supporting cast.

Look at playoffs per game stats.

Lakers 2009 playoffs

Odom was 12 and 10 in playoffs = decent.

Bynum was 6pts 3 reb = just a body off the bench.

Kobe was 30/5/5 for the playoffs.

Odom - 12.3 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.3 bpg

Lakers in 09 had..

Kobe - 30 pts
Pau - 18 pts
Odom - 12 pts
Ariza - 11 pts

Miami in 13 had..

Lebron - 25 pts
D Wade - 15 pts
Bosh - 12 pts
Ray Alenn - 10 points

Lakers top 4 scorers in 09 playoffs scored more than the Heats top 4 in 13 playoffs.

I think Kobe could've found a way to win one with a good supporting cast in the 2002-present era. Dirk and Wade both made it happen, but you're telling me Kobe, with the right team, doesn't get it done once?

Kobe's career FG% in the Finals is like 41%. I really just can't understand that considering he had solid teams around him.

I also consider Dirk and Wade as better teammates that make their team better around them typically; however, I will admit I think Wade brings the Heat down because he clashes with what James brings to the Heat.

The 2009 playoffs are stupid to even bring up because it was a front court battle anyways.

The guards for the Magic were a joke in that series.

I didn't even bother reading through this thread. I'll just say I couldn't stand to listen to Nelly talk for one minute when I started watching this show today. He wasn't listening to a word anyone else was saying and annoyed me to no end.

Nelly is right and he knows basketball more then people realize. Don't let his loud mouth and just spouting off fool you.

He really doesn't. His first point is that guys are taking paycuts to play w/ Lebron and nobody wants to play with Kobe. The paycuts taken by Wade and Bosh to play with Lebron are pretty minimal from what I recall they're all close to max contracts. Not to mention the 3 are best friends and realized a slight paycut will put them in the Finals every year.

Then he says Josh Smith went to Detroit, I guess he was suggesting he could have taken a paycut to play with Kobe, but the Lakers really have no money. Smith would have had to take a pretty big paycut I believe to play in LA and with Smith LA still wouldn't be that good. So obviously not worth it for Smith.

Ray Allen took a lot less money than what Boston was offering. Battier probably could have gotten more too.

Role players take paycuts to play on contenders all the time, even with Kobe. So if he's talking about role players, then he's wrong.
