I haven't seen anyone mention it, but Oden and Gordon played AAU ball together in high school. Oden was a year older than Gordon but they all played together, along with Mike Conley, for the Spiece Indy Heat. I saw them play in the Reebok Big Time tourney in Vegas in the summer of 05. They, of course won the tournament.

Just another thing to think about when wondering how NOLA got in on Oden. Former AAU teammates seems to be a big deal for these guys.

Doesn't Gordon keep talking about how he played AAU with Tyreke and Jrue?

Gordon played AGAINST Tyreke and Jrue. He was on the same team as Mike Conley and Greg Oden.

Yep. We can point to the great job we've done with Gordon as proof.

4) Story of Drew Brees and growth with the city

Brilliant!

What a great pitch. Brees came here as damaged goods...no one wanted him. The city embraced him and a struggling franchise won a Superbowl. Brees is now a sure first ballot HOF and a legend here. This could be Oden's story as well.

Listen Greg,

.You will have the opportunity to prove yourself on a team that is not in the media a whole lot. The expectations and pressure will be a lot quieter with the Pelicans.

.You fill a position of need. This team needs a Center. You will get minutes, but the depth will take a lot of the load off of you. We will work you in, and allow you to adjust.

.You will be joining a very young team loaded with talent. You will have the opportunity to gel with this team, and become a part of a core that very well may end up being something special.

.You will play under a new regime, one that wants to win. New outstanding practice facilities that will rank amongst the tops of the league. We will do all we can for you to succeed.

.Lastly, just like you, this team is a fresh start. This is a chance for you, and this team, to start a new beginning.

Or Lopez, who was never able to play a whole season injury free with the infallible Suns training staff and played all 82 last year.

Why are people excited about this? The guy was damaged goods coming out of OSU, has had multiple serious surgeries, and has not played in three years. I would not even extend any type of offer.

Let Eric Gordon give him a tour of all the nice and comfortable couches, saunas, and other spa-like services since he will be injured 95% of the time. Maybe even bring in some extra PS3's and XBox's to play on during the games.

How about you can come or not, we had enough injured players to worry about last year???

1. Nola is a pretty good city
2. Jamaal Mashburn used to get laid here so can you
3. You don't have to play to get paid(Peja, Gordon)
4. If your a scrub here you become a legend like Aaron Gray, Dan Dickau, etc
5. Not that many people will know what you do so you can live in your bell tower incognito

Why do people get excited about the lottery? Low risk, High Reward. There were plenty of people who weren't excited when it looked like it might cost us a good player. But since it won't, what else are we going to do with the money planned for Oden? The roster is already set.

Exactly. We aren't getting anyone else this offseason so what's $3 million from Benson's pocket mean to us? If this doesn't cost us a player, and it doesn't look like it will, there is literally ZERO risk here.

Why wouldn't we do it?
