The New Orleans meeting is expected to include Mickey Loomis, the Pelicans' head of basketball operations and the NFL Saints' executive vice president and general manager, as well as Pelicans GM Dell Demps and coach Monty Williams. The Pelicans are expected to offer a contract paying close to $3 million in the first season. At least three other teams are expected to offer similar money, a league source said.

What this probably means is a S&T with Portland for their $2.65 million cap room MLE. The Pelicans have to send back at least $1.75 million in salary. Roberts and Miller combined aren't quite enough, only $1.57 million. Have Jackson or Thomas actually signed with the team yet? If they have then they may not be eligible to be traded which would mean you have to start looking at Rivers or Smith to make the full cap room MLE work.

Holiday/Roberts/Rivers/Evans
Gordon/Rivers/Evans/Morrow
Evans/Aminu/Morrow
Davis/Anderson/Smith
Oden/Stiemsma/Davis/Smith

Miller & Withey inactive

Jackson to D-Leauge

Obviously, that is a big if assuming that both Oden and Gordon would be healthy at all. But if by some small chance they are, we are a top 3 team in the west.

I'd love to take a gamble on him, but not at the expense of Rivers or JSmoove.

You have to either lose a legit rotation player or gut the end of the bench to make this happen.

If they sign him, a possible starting lineup would be two #1 overalls, a #4 overall, #7 overall and the #17th overall as the starting lineup.

Pierre Jackson is the only player I'd give up on our current squad for Oden. We'll see what happens.

I'm not even sure that's possible though.

quote:

teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances:

...For three months or until December 15 of that season (whichever is later) after signing a contract as a free agent or matching an offer sheet to a restricted free agent. This obviously does not apply to the trade completing a sign-and-trade transaction

If he's already signed then he can't be part of the deal. Would Lance Thomas take one for the team again and do a S&T knowing he might get cut by Portland and he can't come back to the Pelicans for a year since we would have traded him?
