Today our car insurance bill arrived. We pay 1700 per 6 months for two cars. We have two adult drivers, no wrecks, multi policy discount and 1K deductible. I called Geico and they quoted 800 for both cars per 6 months. Knowing State Farm will drop my home owners policy I started to price all policies. Geico homeowners is more, but the hurricane deductible is 2 percent less. Anyone here have Geico for homeowners?

And state farm wants out of Louisiana. Do you have an agent shopping for you? A lot of homeowners carriers do not write direct

Find a way to get USAA. If one of your parents ever served a second in the military you pretty much qualified

Does a grandparent serving qualify you for USAA?

I have geico for auto and homeowners. 470 per 6 months for auto with 1k deductible (250/500 coverage). 650 per year for the house (i think 140k for the structure and maybe 80k for belongings if i remember correctly). Geico subs out the homeowners and flood to ASI

Yes, I have USAA through my grandfather serving in WWII.

Dunno about how you go around getting it though, he enrolled then got my parents enrolled and I was automatically enrolled at that point.

Their car insurance is pretty good, but house is hit or miss. They don't like to insure older houses from what I understand.

I have tried to get USAA the past two years. They are not writing policies. Right now I am trying to figure out the prices on my current policies to compare. My umbrella policy was quoted 300 more by Geico, but I did not realize in LA uninsured motorist is an option on an umbrella.

Homeowners is written by Arrowhead. I could not find rating information on insurance comm. website. I called the Insurance commissioner and they were not able to provide any info.

No real need for UM in an umbrella. Especially if you have good medical insurance
