What's wrong with Gentilly?

Doing some real estate looking and see there is a huge drop from Lakeview to Gentilly (specifically just east of city park/SJB). Should I be prepared to go tactical if I buy a house there? Don't leave anything valuable outside? Just isn't the same value name as Lakeview? Is Gentilly just not the place for an OT baller?

Some sketchy spots around there for sure. You may be able to find something though. There are a few nice streets in there but can't remember off the top if my head or even if its considered gentilly.

There's lots of young professionals moving into that area. It's the surrounding area that's the problem. Any streets right around Holy Cross are fine.

Before Katrina it was pretty ok, middle class families mainly

Since Big K it's been a disaster, many families didnt return, renters took over lots of shootings that didnt occur before

It's making a rebound esp around the holy cross high area but IMO needs more time. Lots of places over there haven't been rebuilt since

Do yourself a favor and pay a few bucks more to buy a house elsewhere.

Some areas are worse than others.

Places to live:
-Gentilly Terrace
-The Holy Cross/Pratt area
-The bird streets above Robert E Lee and west of Bayou St John are technically Gentilly

Places to avoid:
-Anything between London Ave Canal and Elysian Fields
-Anything between Gentilly Blvd and 610
-Anything west of Franklin Ave

Lake Terrace... And there are some very nice homes there, but you will pay for them. That corner of R. E. Lee and Paris coming back S-L-O-W-L-Y..... Purchases around Holy Cross (Particularly between Londo Canal and Paris, Fillmore and the lake) might be a good long term investment.

You might also find something nice around Bayou St. John, all the way behind old Vista Shores.

This is what I was wondering. Saw some recently built nice places, but figured there was a catch.

I hope it gets better in time. There are some nice homes and it is a convenient area. The crime has kept people away.

Gentilly was one of my fav areas before, close to city park, lake right there. It took a big hit and just takes time and leadership. Time is there, the other well it'll probably have to be citizens like pretty much everything else in nola

I grew up in Gentilly, walking distance to Holy Cross. Lived there most of my life.

Now, I'm Sid in Lakeshore. Not entirely sure how I feel about that. I do miss the old neighborhood and the "feel" it had. I never felt at risk.

I grew up in Gentilly Terrace, walking distance to Brother Martin. My parents still live there and have never had a problem. I think it's one of the most underrated neighborhoods in the city.

I saw a house for sale recently on Pratt Dr. that really caught my eye. No nothing about that neighborhood though. Is that considered Gentilly?

Too many Thug POS dopers looking to pull a robbery in Gentilly. The place has gone down hill. Always keep a gun close by if you decide to go forth and rent/own.

I live in Gentilly. With the exception of one shitty renter, we are surrounded by a shitload of older families who own their homes. Most are actually retired and they just work in their yards all day. It's really quiet.
