Why do people think dress codes don't apply to them?

Went to Commander's Palace for brunch yesterday. While waiting for the res to four party to arrive, family of 4 walks up to be seated - mom, dad and 2 boys probably 10-13. The guy at the desk firmly but politely refused them as all 4 were in shorts, and the 2 boys were in basketball shorts and t-shirts. Dad started getting angry, saying they had been planning this trip for a month and eating here was one of their most anticipated things.

Now if you had been planning on going to Commander's Palace for a month, don't you think the mention of a dress code would have come up somewhere in your research? Even if they somehow didn't see it written down, just knowing what kind of place it is should have been a clue that walking in while wearing your workout gear isn't going to fly. I just don't understand people sometimes.

a nice pair of shorts are one thing, but Tshirts and basketball shorts should not be allowed in a place like that. Good for him

Shorts aren't allowed at Commander's ever, which sucks because it was hot yesterday and I would have been happy in some nice khakis and a short sleeve button down

Sounds like they were pretty trashy, I'm glad Commanders told them to GTFO

I was just going off what the other people in our party told me, yesterday was my first visit there

From their website:
quote:

Shorts and t-shirts are never allowed. Jackets preferred at dinner. Men must have closed-toe shoes

Maybe the shorts and t-shirts line is the combination, or like yesterday no baggy athletic shorts?

Commanders

Absolutely ridiculous that people think they can bring kids into restaurants wearing shite like that.

That kind of trash needs to just stick to upscale trips to Houston's.
