What would the recruiting board do??

Long time reader, few times poster...

Lets say you are the top recruits in the state of Louisiana. You have many offers from all over the country, including your home state LSU Tigers. Just depending on the system, coaches, and prestige of the programs, where would you go to school and why??

I always go back to Russell Shepard, and wonder what if he goes to Oregon instead. Would it have worked out better for him? And Terelle Pryor was a beast at OSU, but lets say he goes to Michigan with Rich Rods system instead.

LF, Cam Rob, Dupre, Noil, Quinn, Hootie, etc.

re: What would the recruiting board do??

since I'm 6'3 200 and run a 4.5 I think my talents would be utilized just fine here at LSU as a wideout ala Lafell and RR.

on the flipside i hit like a truck and have awesome instincts so I could see myself switching sides and playing OLB for the cheif.

I think all those guys fit what LSU runs, except maybe speedy. We haven't utilized his type very well.

LSU… no ifs and or buts….
it was ALWAYS a dream of mine to play for LSU… given the chance to actually have that happen, and it's not even a choice… my "verbal" commitment was done as soon as i learned to say "LSU"…

the possibility of suiting up and playing for your fellow Louisianians, especially now that there really no reason (save playing time) to go out of state, since LSU is rolling right now, and they have some of the best facilities out there, how can you pass that up??

I would take my visits, see hot chicks and slay poon just like the rest of them.

Who gives a frick about what some unathletic nerd on a message board, who was never recruited, has to say about a kid taking his time.

Then I'd pick LSU

I've said it before. Stanford would be my choice over just about anyone.

Speedy comes to mind for me too...super athlete with great speed. Obviously the LSU fan in me would love to field as many Speedys as possible, but does he truly translate to what we like to do on offense? Maybe Cam changes it? Idk. Just an example.

I do what's best for me if I want to play in the NFL. However, I would never play for an LSU rival. Period. I would go out of the SEC before that happened.

However, there are not many positions that LSU cannot utilize properly.

It is always an unanswerable question cause you can't do both. You pick a school and you live with the consequences. What i find equally intriguing is how on earth do you ultimately decide. With so many choices for a top pick recruit, how do you sift through the offers. I think the top programs are very similar in what they have to offer as far as coaching, facilities, etc. For instance picking between LSU and Bama both have much to offer how does a recruit ultimately decide? I laugh when i read post on the board about recruits taking so long to decide, I think it is a lot more complicated a decision then we posters think.

I agree with that, but not from a football standpoint. There aren't many doors that a degree from Stanford won't open.

Completely agree. Not to mention these are 17 and 18 year old kids...could not imagine making that decision for myself. Especially when almost every big time school can offer the same things.

If this just concerns draft status and putting up numbers and winning :

LF- Wisconsin if its still like when BB was there. They bring in hoss lineman, and usually put up huge numbers against bad defenses.

Speedy- Oregon seems to fit there system (love the unis)

Trey Quinn and dupre Baylor- I like art briles and its a pass happy team. They would dominate the big 12. Oklahoma st wouldn't be bad either

Hootie and every other DB- LSU track record on DBS

Cam rob- LSU

If I was a high profile QB I would go to USCw.... Pretty much guanteed a first/second round pick just due to the exposure..

Not a bad place to live either

Harris- OHio St- don't have to play in the SEC. Still good venues and the system fits him.

I was NOT a Crowton OC fan or a Studrawa OC fan but that wasn't the issue with RS. There was a reason that LSU was the ONLY program to even offer him a QB shot. Go back to the UnderArmour QB skills test footage. Hell, I could have finished ahead of that guy...he finished dead last. And when you have body that emulates a twig and you never get stronger or bigger, you have a grand total of one asset...speed. There aren't a lot of guys who can succeed like that. Shepard didn't have that much shiftiness and certainly didn't have a little power like say a Percy H at Florida. Shepard's problem was he wasn't qualified to be a QB and didn't have enough overall skillset to be a WR (hands weren't that good, not a physical guy, and his route running almost seemed random at best).

You have to improve yourself to succeed...want to have the perfect example? Who thought that Richard Dickson looked like a college football player? I didn't but he became the best receiving TE in LSU history. I'm biased but unless someone was giving my girlfriend a job in the athletic department at their school, I would go to LSU. The atmosphere is rated #1 in the nation by just about every magazine, the coaches say it is the toughest place to play, ranks in the top 5 or so nationally each year in attendance, have great coaches, a great field (natural turf) to play on to reduce injuries, and win about as many games as anyone. Plus, if you like to hunt, fish, etc, you are close to those things.

USC worked out poorly for Sanchez and Barkley and Leinhart. They made the NFL (assumption for Barkley) but as I remember, all 3 tumbled in the draft like one of those balls you put in your dryer to avoid static cling.

You are legend up there sir in those parts. I would suggest you avoid the Kansas area in general because they are still bemoaning that small college NC they were counting on based upon your expected arrival.

I do remember a saying that went, If you're smart enough to get a scholly from Stanford, you're not dumb enough to turn it down.
