15 worst FA contracts in NBA history

LINK
quote:

14. Peja Stojakovic, New Orleans Hornets in 2006 (five years, $64 million)
Stojakovic was 28 when the Hornets decided to add him to their roster in the hope that surrounding Chris Paul with a shooter would put the team in the hunt for a title. It didn’t work out that way. He arrived in 2006 and played just 13 games thanks to lingering back issues. When he returned he was nothing more than an average starter, and during his time with the Hornets he averaged 14.5 points per game. He was traded to the Toronto Raptors at the beginning of the 2010 season, but was released in January of 2011.

I honestly forgot he was THAT young when he signed with us. Maybe we gave him a little too much money, but Peja provided us with some great moments, and no way we were as good as we were without him.

That Gilbert Arenas contract should be #1

I agree, but that contract really hamstrung us down the road. It was probably the biggest factor in our terrible summer of 2008.

It's outrageous that Stephon Marbury didn't make this guy's list.

Peja hit 10 3's against the lakers in one game when he was with us. That alone is worth 60mil

I think the money was fine for him. But 5 years at his age was just too much. He gave us some great moments.

14 is a little too low.

Goes to show why a 4 year deal with a 29 year old Iggy would have been a bad idea.

How much would your team have paid him?

Regarding Gilbert Arenas' contract:

quote:

How bad is his deal? Even after being amnestied by the Orlando Magic on December 9, 2011 and not playing in the NBA since 2012, Arenas will be the NBA’s third-highest paid player during the 2013-14 season. Only Dirk Nowitzki and Kobe Bryant will make more money.

I would say for one season it almost worked out. We were so close to a trip to the Conf Finals, and were probably one player away from having legit shot of winning it all that season. Peja was a HUGE reason for the success of that team. But $64 million is a bit too much for one season.

I agree. The circumstances were unfortunate, but Grant Hill's Orlando contract has to be one of the worst ever.

re: 15 worst FA contracts in NBA history

Bringing in a guy like Peja (who was a decently big name at the time) was a totally necessary move for a franchise that was talentless and homeless at the time.
