re: Secession movements on the upsurge

Add ARk like I said and over night the republic would be awash in $. Taxes on the O&G alone would be a shite ton. Between the O&G, refineries, Ag, and seafood, river commerce we would be more than set.

Who is we? I guess you mean the government. The conservative plan is to gain prosperity through taxation?

Don't be a complete ass, some taxation is an unfortunate necessity. I live in LA so I would be a citizen, hence the we.

It isn't. It's just a way of voicing some dissatisfaction. No one will secede.

Pretty much this.

Geopolitical power overnight. The US would not dare to declare war, not to mention launching a nuke. It would be a diplomatic nightmare and several other countries would greatly support the seceded states.

The trick would be actually not letting too many states in, very few other states can bring to the table what those four can. Also all these people thinking there would be a war are idiots. It would be peaceful and civilized.

Huh? Where do you guys come up with this shit? Why do you think that people would want to nuke Texas?

I support all the secession stuff, but we may need to keep an eye on y'all crazy mofo's WMDs. :)

re: Secession movements on the upsurge

If the new entity was as wealthy and powerful as you guys are saying, why would the United States allow if to secede peacefully?

They wouldn't. There would be war if that is what it came down to.

Do you think the United States would let their energy hub and major port cities secede peacefully just because some people got mad and decided to take their toys and go home?

We rain death on brown people all the time to protect these interests across the world. You're misguided to think we wouldn't use force to protect these interests so close to home.

And this is all a hypothetical because there will not be secession for the reasons articulated earlier in the thread.

Yep, more states would just be dead weight. The four would be a great combination.

I have a theory that the US will one day split up like the Balkans based on political ideology.

I saw that post and thought to write a bit of something regarding it. didn't quote because I wasn't replying directly to the post and didn't feel like going back to read it. So that's why it may not seem contextually correct to that quote.

Jesus. Y'all are bickering about government power.

The real power are the industries. I don't buy energy or scrimps from the government. I buy them from businesses. They can move freely across borders if they lobby politicians on both sides for it.

We have free trade with China for frick's sake.

Why wouldn't you cut taxes on O&G, anyway?

Since we are talking hypothetical here Louisiana is pretty damn self sufficient too. We have the ports, energy infrastructure, manufacturing, and farming. 30% of the country's natural gas goes through Henry Hub. Also by simply shutting the the Colonial and Kinder Morgan pipelines valves off at the state border Louisiana could cripple the east coast. Of course that would spur on all out civil war.

2 carriers and half a dozen destroyers would be parked at the mouth of the Mississippi before they could even begin to get this in place.

Is industry ordering air strikes and a ground invasion?

It doesn't matter what industry and business interests are here.

If the the shite hit the fan, you would feel the entire meaty dick of the United Staes military come down on you.

It would not be pretty.

the centralization and overreach of the federal govt began with the civil war and Lincoln. The notion of states rights was lost with the war as was any more notion of secession. Before the war people referred to the united states in the plural "are"; after the war, it was the United States "is"

If you want a reason as to why it would be a diplomatic nightmare, think about it. If you don't feel like thinking: The US fights abroad for the sake of democracy. It would make them look like hypocrites should they not allow a peaceful secession (consequences would stem from that). The US has a lot of enemies who would be interested in supporting a war on the homefront of the US
