Help me fix this Bateau transom

Busted it out on the first trip on the upper Amite. I'm thinking of welding in plate aluminum. 9.8 hp Merc did this.What say the OB?

I think an aluminum plate would probably work.

I'd cut out what you have and weld on a new plate

Cut out? There's rotten wood bolted on the inside. Couldn't I just weld in plate Aluminum to the inside? BTW ,where could I find plate aluminum?
