I've owned a 4 stroke Yamaha 90 for about a year now and love it.

Unfortunately, I'm looking to "upgrade" (if you call it that) to a bigger and different boat. (to a bayboat)

The 4 strokes seem easier to use and much quieter.

I've narrowed my search to 4's, but is there really that much difference?

Mechanically they don't have much in common.

I'm a 2 stroke fan, but the 4 strokes are great these days.

2 strokes will be gone in a few years over about 50hp IMO. 4 stroke reliability is just sooooo much better.

We've always had two strokes. Really and truly it's about what you're trying to do with the motor. We use ours to get up in shallow water and the two stroke obviously is better at that. Unless you are really using a two stroke and the difference would make a differnce in what youre doing id say the 4 stroke is better. Whatever you do don't get a noisy arse rattletrap mercury.

I would too. That was just recs for others. other than being quiet, I pretty much hate everything else about a 4. Only way I ever own a 4 is on a party barge.

2 strokes don't do much better than fours anymore except rev higher with exploding and weigh less.

I still love them though. The smell in the morning is worth the other bullshite to me

I hate having to fight with mine on a cold morning and all the damn smoke.

I probably won't have another 2 stroke motor

If by don't do much better you mean they do everything better, then yeah, I agree with you.
