I have not seen many of his earlier works and am interested in seeing some of his suspense/thrillers:

Sisters (1973)
Obsession (1976)
The Fury (1978)
Dressed to Kill (1980)
Blow Out (1981)
Body Double (1984)

I am a huge fan of Hitchcock's Vertigo so I am intrigued by Obsession. Are any of these must-see?

Body double was strange. One pretty crazy scene

Dressed to kill is a must see IMO if you like these kinds of flicks

Body double was different in a good way. Some strange things and not as solid as dressed but certainly worth a view

Blow out was ugh and the fury was average at best and that's a stretch.

But dressed to kill is really really good or was when I was a teen

Blow Out is great. Travolta was never better, believe it or not. Was one of my favorite suspense movies of the 80's.

Dressed to Kill and Body Double are the two I'd say are most Hitchcockian, and very good.

Sister's I haven't seen in over 30 years, don't remember too much. The Fury was okay, nothing special, and I haven't seen Obsession.

I basically agree with all of what he said. Blow Out is probably the best and most well made, although Body Double is my favorite (there is something trashy about it that I like). I love De Palma and those are my two favorites. I second Travolta's great performance in Blow Out. Start there.

Hmmm I might need to re watch blow out its been 20 years or so. I just remember not caring much for it for some reason.

I know why not now that I think about it but it's kind of a spoiler so won't say

Thanks. I will definitely watch Blow Out, Dressed to Kill, and Body Double to start. Then I may make it to the other movies.

Those are all really good. A little bit of cheesy 80's looks in Body Double but it will hold your interest.

I think of dressed to kill as kind of a classic thriller. Michael Caine, Angie Dickinson, Nancy Allen & a the guy who could have played Harry Potter if it had been done 10 years earlier than DTK.

As others have said, Travolta is great in Blow Out. You also get John Lithgow, Dennis Franz & Nancy Allen.

I agree with watching Blow Out first but can't tell you why. Nancy Allen looks really good in dressed to kill.

Man, was she hot in all those De Palma movies. Those little bunny teeth of hers really did it for me.

Love De Palma movies, American Giallo style LINK For whatever reason I haven't seen The Fury yet though.

Out of those Dressed to Kill and Blow Out are both great movies. They're all really good though, a lot of fun to watch. I'm fan of his later works too.

DePalma's early and mid career films are all good. He becomes a bit more spotty as he ages. I would watch his whole catalog.

He's the most direct descendant of Hitchcock out of all American Filmmakers (the Coens running a close second). His entire style owes itself to the master and pays homage in a way that's both modern and classic at the same time.

Dressed to Kill, Blow Out and Body Double are a great triple play on a DePalma binge.

I wish he would have kept making films like that, but he got bored. Hitchcock never did, and maybe that's what set him apart.
