Noob question:
What is the significance of shooting a banded duck?

Killed my one and only banded bird in Nov 2004, drake mallard in north shore Lake Pontchartrain area. Have been in the blind when a banded speck was taken, I had no claim to it though.
There is a huge correlation with hunting banded species of birds and also where higher concentrations of those birds are. That's why so many bands are recovered in SW La vs SE La, with more mallards, pins and geese taken over that way. Killing grays and GWs (abundant species, rarely banded) is just not going to stack your lanyard in jewelry. That said, dosgris/scaup banding has been on the increase in recent years so you might think twice on passing on them. At least watch for bands when you let that 40 pack of them light in the dekes

None
It is something that was glamorized by TV and guides wearing them on their call lanyards. I know guys with plenty on their necks that at best are sub par. Some shooting preserves band their own birds.

3 that I have. Pretty sure I killed a few others, but didn't feel like arguing over it.

I've been duck hunting since I was 10 or 12, I'm 36 now and still haven't got a band. My son got his first limit of woody's last year......and notice the band!

Thank you....she's a machine too. Typical story....her parents were both trial champs. An older sibling from a previous litter went for 5,000!
