IRS chief moves to cancel $70M in bonuses

Thank you Republicans for your bitching and griping. Sometimes it does pay off.

From AP:

[quote]Citing budget cuts, the Internal Revenue Service is canceling this year's employee bonuses for managers and is working to cancel bonuses for union workers, the agency announced Tuesday.

Acting IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel told workers in an email that he is canceling the bonuses because of automatic spending cuts enacted this year. The union's collective bargaining agreement calls for about $70 million in performance bonuses this year, but there is a clause that could enable the IRS to renegotiate.

I'm still wondering how any CBA with FedGov can compel it to make payments.

Our CBA clearly states that any bonus payments are subject to funding (and that's why our agency decided not to pay ANY bonuses to ANYONE--managers or staff--this year).

Will he take a look at the 250 million dollar conract entered into by the IRS based upon the actions of one worker whose buddy at the IRS got him the deal? If I recal the math correctly the company never had a contract in excess of 250K prior to this sweetheart deal.

IRS workers should have never been allowed to unionize in the first place.
That fact alone is an abomination.

FDR himself knew better about public sector unions.

Why cancel bonuses? They claim they didn't do anything wrong.

ETA: doh, I see its sequester related, not scandal related.

Why in the hell would a taxpayer funded worker get a bonus?

Cost of living wage increase yes but a bonus hell no.
