John Boehner: No House vote on Senate immigration bill

Boehner pulls a Harry Reid on Harry Reid!

LINK

quote:

"I’ve made it clear and I’ll make it clear again, the House does not intend to take up the Senate bill,” Boehner said Monday. “The House is going to do its own job in developing an immigration bill.”

quote:

On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pushed at Boehner’s insistence that he will obey by the “Hastert rule,” which requires a majority of the Republican caucus support any legislation before it moves to the floor.

quote:

“Eventually he’ll be forced to take the bill that we passed here, or the country will be left with no immigration reform at all. Which is a bad, bad outcome,” Reid said on the Senate floor.

Boehner must have stolen the keys to his balls from Obama.

No worries, I'm sure Obama will get them back very shortly.

How many job creating bills are sitting on a shelf in the senate because of that POS Reid?

Boehner must be following the advice of Bill Kristol from the NRO. There is no rush to pass the this immigration bill. None at all.

If Boehner passes any form of the Senate immigration bill there will be hell to pay during the 2014 midterms. Hell to pay in the form of the GOP base staying home resulting in Democratic gains, if not retaking the House.

The best thing for Boehner to do is pass narrow immigration legislation that focuses on border security THEN citizenship. The Democrats will not go for it in the Senate. At minimum Boehner and company will be able to stave off the Democratic and media attacks by "doing something".

This strategy will allow the GOP to likely gain more seats in the House and gaining control of the Senate becomes highly plausible during the 2014 midterms. Then some "borders first" immigration reform can get passed.

Passing any form of the senate immigration bill is GOP suicide.

As long as were playing Games for 2014... Boehner should tell Obama: "I will bring the Bill to the floor when you implement Obamacare."

He should also tell Reid "I will bring the bill for a vote of you bring one (of the numerous) Obamacare repeal bills up for a vote in the Senate."

Boehner holds a lot of cards. He just doesn't seem apt to use them.

This post just summed up everything I hate about our political system right now. It's all backroom deals and timing to get relelected with no shits actually given about fixing the problem.

Can you or someone else define the problem for me? I have yet to understand the immigration problem (as I sit next to two work colleagues, one that just gained his citizenship and one that is in the process of gaining his citizenship. Both from Valenzuela).

The problem with immigration right now is that we've got so many illegals over here, more come every day, all the while i've known people who go to college here yet have a very difficult time obtaining citizenship. Those are the immigration problems i've seen.

Obtaining citizenship should be difficult. It's part of the cultural assimilation process.

Then let me ask you this. Why do we need to amnesty all of the illegals? We have plenty of laws on the books we can use to deport them if we focus efforts on it. Then we can move college educated immigrants here legally to the front of the line and expedite their citizenship processing. Would that not make more sense than amnesty for all the illegals?

That isn't because of a lack of laws. We already have laws addressing this. Our government simply ignores them.

We have laws for this too. Also ignored.

Really?
So you think we should just forget border security, and go with the Senate Bill?

"Why do we need to amnesty all of the illegals?"

Here's another question: why do we need to do anything on immigration? And if we do need to do something, why must we do it NOW? Obama evidently didn't consider it that important in his first term. Look skeptically on politicians' claims of a crisis.

As of now, I would prefer that nothing be done. I really don't want to see our southern border militarized - at great cost - especially when, as I understand it, net migration from Mexico is way down. Plus, it does nothing about the 40% or so of illegals who overstayed visas. As for those who "live in the shadows," I have no interest in hunting them down and deporting them, but why are we in a rush to provide them with all of the benefits of citizenry. I advocate slowing the hell down and acting only when and if we achieve something approaching a consensus in this country. And you can mark this down: the republic will stand firm a year, two, or even 10 hence, regardless of whether "comprehensive immigration reform" is passed.

ANY BILL PASSED IN THE HOUSE WILL COME OUT LOOKING LIKE THE SENATE BILL.

It doesn't matter how tough the border protection are and all these promises. The Senate Bill will rise out of committee. Boehner knows this, and is going to double cross everyone when this goes to committee. The House should not pass a bill, period.

Boehner should just say what Reid says every time the House sends a bill to the Senate: "That bill is dead on arrival." He should simply say we already have a law on the books that is being ignored to build a fence. When that is finished we will take up further immigration reform and not until then.

So, you're not ok with the politicians being responsive to their constituents? Because that's what this is...them acting in a manner they believe will be met with the majority of their constituents' approval as reflected at the voting booth.

Secondly, only a fool has bought into the notion that reform has to happen NOW or really any time soon. Just enforce the last reform, or the reform before that, or, the reform before that, or...

You ought to be angry at them passing bull shite laws that no one actually intends to enforce. But no, like a ninny, you want them to "Do something! Anything! Think of the children. MY GOD!!!"

Interception is RIGHT about this.

This is how Boehner will bring a bill to the floor with apparent political cover.

The House bill will be be strong on border security and will receive majority GOP support.

The bill will then move to conference committee and will turn closer to the senate bill with little to no border security.

Finally Boehner will bring the conference committee bill to the floor and it will receive all Democratic support and support from about 30 RINOs to get the 218 needed to pass.

It seems the fix is in.

We can't allow any immigration bill to be bought to the floor. Call your congressman. Seriously.
