I just read a free article on BBI that assessed the tight end position for LSU this year. It tended to agree with the consensus that I've been seeing about that position. I disagree with the conclusion that Dillon Gordon will not be a big factor as a pass catching tight end.

Everybody sees Gordon, at 6'5" and 280, as pretty much just a blocker for the run game, especially in goal line situations. BBI predicted he would catch 3 or 4 balls this year. I think he'll catch at least that many TD passes! The dude was a very good basketball player on a very good team in High school, and he was also a pitcher on the baseball team. Writers, get a clue!! The kid's an athlete and can catch the football! He caught a 15 yard TD in the Spring game. Also, OC Cam is known for incorporating TEs into the passing game. Gordon should be a threat to catch a pass in every short yardage situation. I hope he makes 2nd and 3rd and short a whole lot tougher for the opposition to defend. I also hope that his threat to step across the line of scrimmage and catch a quick pass for a first down or TD will make it easier for running backs to get that 2-3 yards. It should.

I think the other tight ends will all contribute. LSU will step up the pace on offense this season until games are in-hand. That means a lot more offensive plays run. If Gordon is healthy, I think he catches at least 15 passes this season.

I know Travis Dickson is coming into his own and is a good receiver. I believe that DeSean Smith is going to be a great receiver out of the TE spot and that Logan Stokes brings a solid TE skill set. I just disagree with the consensus that says Dillon Gordon won't be much of a factor in the LSU passing offense.

It is hard to really call. LSU hasn't consistently used a receiving tight end since Richard Dickson. We'll see who emerges, but I'm excited that the tight ends may become a receiving threat once again.

Didn't read your rant, but I've been wanting to see more use of the TE for years now. Teams have torched us with TE, I'm surprised that we have not taken into consideration how valuable that position is as a receiver.

I think we'll get 2 out of the four to really produce for us but Mett has to look for them.

Richard Dickson 06-09
6 96
32 375 5 TDs
31 324 5 TDs
21 157

Deangelo Peterson 09-11
5 82 2 TDs
13 198
18 179 1 TD

I didn't add in other TEs, only the best we've had over the last few years. Peterson could have had 3 TDs in 2010 but he fell short by 1 yard every time.

Another thing is that you have to give these guys a year(Dickson should be ready now). I fully expect Dickson to follow in his bro's footsteps and Gordon to be heavily used in the redzone. Smith will get a few looks but I think his time is next year.

we will see all 4 this season. I just recall Cam liking gordon in spring. his hands arent too shabby, and he can block.
