That sucked. But I understand the pick.

The Capital One Bowl wanted A&M first and the SEC didn't want UGA to fall to CFA. The gentile hand of the SEC is where blame lies, if any exists.

I doubt it would be different. That game was very "meh" for me.

I think LSU takes a slight step back this season (2 MAYBE 3 losses), but your post simply isn't true.

Bowl results don't change the pre season perception much in my opinion

You guys don't read up much outside of SEC stuff do you? The perception is Clemson is a big boy who's going to win the ACC after beating LSU(a big bad SEC team).

EVERY LSU article references the loss from last year. Couple that with the losses to the NFL and people think we are in decline or 6th in the SEC pecking order. Trust me, I read A LOT of CFB stuff in general and that loss to Clemson has left a blemish on our national perception.

If we had won that game finishing 11-2, we'd be ranked right behind Bama in the west and ahead of USCe and UF in the conference.

Just Clemson being Clemson, and LSU still sucks.

When you are in the BCS top 20 no game is meaningless. If your North Texas then ok.

I am an SC fan, but I watched almost all of LSU's games last season. The Tigers were a very talented bunch that could have beaten anybody on their day. It's extremely difficult for a CF team to play at "elite levels" in every game of the season, though we as fans expect it, whether it is a critical conference game against a ranked powerhouse or a not-so-prestigious bowl game against an ACC team. I expect LSU to win at least 9 games this season, good shout for 10 or 11 if fortune smiles on you.
"National Perception" relies on people who remember LSU won titles a few years back, and then went 0-2 in the last two big post-season finales. Those people don't watch week in, week out though, so take it with a grain of salt.
Tl;Dr: LSU's really good, and will be this season. National perception's based on casual fans/observers and ain't nobody got time for that.

We should have won the Chick-fil-A bowl. That was embarrassing.

I don't think it's the national perception that would be that much different. I think ours would. The last game is always the barometer for the fanatic.

However, nationally not everyone is invested in LSU like we are so they tend to judge more reasonably and long term.

At least that's my view.

I kinda got the feeling that the Clemson game was a let down. I wasn't super excited for the game and I suspect that LSU wasn't as excited either. Not an excuse, but it is reality. That game meant more to Clemson than LSU and in the end they wanted it more. I'm sure that the outcome of the game did have some influence on our preseason ranking. But I'm liking that we are the hunters instead of the hunted this year.

I think this mentality that we were too "disappointed" about the Chick-Fil-A Bowl to win is a bunch of crap. If you play in a bowl, you should play to win. It's not like we would have played better if we got the Cotton Bowl bid like we were all hoping for. We just didn't win the Chick-Fil-A.

The close loss to Clemson doesn't change the fact that LSU was loaded with NFL talent, obviously. Just one team was motivated to play an SEC power and the other felt screwed over by playing in the "Peach Bowl." Had Clemson missed that field goal and LSU emerged victorious 24-22, that still wouldn't have changed the need for a new OC because teams don't usually win when the other team has nearly four more first downs than you. Testament to how great the defense was.

LSU had a 10 win season and is one year removed from being billed as one of the greatest of all time teams and yet is somehow on the decline.

Whatever.

Oh...and TA&M is overrated this year.

The problem is people think the SEC has crappy offenses.

We say it's because the defenses are so good, they make the offenses look average. Basically, we say that if we played against other conference defenses, then we would look awesome.

Then, we line up against one of the worst defenses in the country, and our line got dismantled.

The Clemson loss was as embarrassing as it gets.
