I agree. I know it's still a work in progress, but the setup is pretty bland and everything feels so forced over there. I get a meh vibe over there for sure, but the new patio may help it out. I doubt I'll be back any time soon. Bulldog is better

Place definitely has potential .. Hopefully they'll see it and eventually live up to it .. The Bulldog just kills this place, IMO .. minus the cig smoke .. which I think is worth dealing with at this point vs. PH ..

Yeah I think PH has the potential and I like that it's smoke free. I've only been once but plan on giving it a few more tries. Some of my friends know people that work there so they usually get better service. The one time I went we definitely got bad service from one girl but another dude came and helped out a few times in between when he saw us getting antsy.

Bad lighting, seating, and general setup IMO. It's gonna take some serious work in there to get it going.

eta: I've had some pretty bad service both times I was there. I saw a lot of people eating, so I'm curious about the food now.

I wonder if they have contemplated dropping table service all together? Just do like the bulldog and make everyone go to the bar to get service.

I rather the clean feel and natural light of PH during the day. At night I get how it seems cold since it isn't a typical dive bar feel.

And the service just shouldn't be that inconsistent .. especially at a new place trying to establish a footprint, IMO, Brag .. It's like there's no direction, business plan, or system in place ..

They should honestly. I hate getting pressured by a waitress to order from her when I would rather go to the bar and look at all the taps and make my decision right there.

The menu is very limited and a bit pricey .. I didn't eat this time .. Last time I had the gumbo .. which was terrible and took 45 minutes to come out ..

Usually what I do. Take that out of the equation. It is funny that they will take a beer order, but not food.

I've been twice... Once on a Sunday evening and it was dead. Went a couple of Fridays ago after and early dinner and almost completely full.... Got decent service both times. I enjoy the beer selection, but I wish they had more rotating stuff that might be a little off the beaten path : maven:

I ate there the first time I went and probably wouldn't eat there again. I do think the prices are a tad high on the beer as well

I keep hearing this, but don't see it. In comparison to its two closest competitors the prices are near equal.

You're probably right.... They're about on par with chimes beer prices but you get an imperial pint at chimes... And a lot less selection. I'd rather pay a buck more a pint to drink at pelican house then to leave the bulldog smelling like an ash tray.

Beer prices are pretty much pricey anywhere you go .. In most cases, you're getting 3 beers for what a 12 pack of the same beer would cost you at a store ..

I think it was ICS that I had at both places a few weeks back, bulldog was a 10oz pour for 5.99 I think, 16oz at PH was 6.99.

On the menu obviously PH will look overpriced, but it is a deal if you want to take down 16oz of ICS.

Without question, I'd love to

After being to Pelican House 4-5 times now, I do think that the Bulldog has an edge over it. The atmosphere is just that much better. PH has potential, and I especially like I can go there and not leave smelling like cigarette smoke (I quit smoking, yay for me), but it feels like it's missing something. I agree that PH would probably be better if they stopped doing table service.. I usually go to the bar for a drink anyway because it takes a long time for a server to come around after I've finished my beer.

eta

As far as pricing goes, it's about the same for booze, imo. And let's be honest, if I'm drinking expensive beer I'm not that concerned with pricing as long as it's not outrageously different. A buck here or there cheaper or more expensive at each place isn't going to sway me.. it's more about the atmosphere and service.

The tables are akward and theres nothing to look at or anything. They need to tone down the lighting, put up some more TVs and hire a decorator.

Just wondering, when you say lighting you mean it needs to be darker, more like the bulldog?

Booze prices really don't bother me anywhere I go .. I realize I am getting it stuck up my arse for the convenience of drinking out with entertainment, people watching, and someone bringing it to me ..
