What should I order if I've never eaten this kind of food before?

Why are y'all naming Indian dishes?? To the op , Lebanese food is middle eastern food. It's very simple and has universal appeal.

Just order some type of kabobs, grape leaves, different dips and salads etc. if they have a sampler platter get that. Where are you going?

You might want to limit yourself to the country of origin for the restaurant. Different cultures and cuisines over melinnia and and geography.

I've found vary little variation in dishes and cuisine in Middle Eastern countries compared to other regions.

If in Lafayette, check out Cedar Deli. Grape leaves etc all good there.

I love falafels. Get some hummus, tahini and/or Baba ghanoush (all sauces/dips). I prefer Baba ghanoush over hummus but I like humus too. spread them on a pita, crumble up the falafel, add tomatoes, pickles and lettuce....little bit of hot sauce....its heaven.

Iranian or Lebanese, in that order. FTW

Iran is one place where the agriculture and diet are far from the typical Greek/Lebanese joints in America.

Rouge Grill in Baton Rouge has traditional Persian cuisine.
Awesome Kabobs!

Persian cuisine is still similar to Arab cuisine though. Other than that if you went to a restaurant owned by someone from Yemen, Jordan , or Iraq the food would be the same. The cuisine of North Africa is a little different though.
