Just finished watching 'Lost' (Spoilers)

I got immersed in this show and just watched the final episode. I know I will probably get grief on here but I feel underwhelmed by how it ended. It seems like there were several threads in the show that never were wrapped up (Walt's powers, some of the Dharma stuff, etc.) Looking back on all the seasons I feel like at times some things were just happening that didn't really have an important bearing on how the show ended.
This might also be an unusual observation, but I think the actor playing Ben Linus did a good acting job considering how his character changed throughout the show. He went from uber villian to another member of the 'good guys' and seemed to pull that role off for the most part.
I don't know, maybe I just need to think on it some more to make a final call. Sorta meh on the whole experience at the moment. Was entertaining, but not that fulfilling if that makes sense.

I retroactively hate all of Lost due to the last couple of seasons.

While I had so many unanswered questions at the end of that show, it was still the most entertained I'd ever been by a tv show

I have been splitting time between rewatching lost and finishing Fringe
Lost is even better the second time through.
I had some issues with the end at the time, but as the years have passed the more I realize it was perfect. Not all neat and tidy, but perfect nevertheless.

A 2nd watch might benefit me also since I understand how it plays out. However I just finished all seasons back to back so I will probably take a break for awhile.
I'm trying to fight the urge to conclude that the show was a waste of time considering how it ended (not knocking it for those who like it).

LOST was too damn ambitious for its own good. They threw out a million "mysterious" plot lines promising they would wrap it up all tidy and neat later on but wrote themselves into a corner.
I think the thing that kind of turned people off is that the creators kept saying they weren't making shite up as they went along, when ultimately they clearly were.
But I still liked it cause of the characters and when it was good, it was really good.

See I didn't mind that they didn't have every single detail planned out. However, do not introduce a mystery without knowing the answer beforehand and not answer it. I don't care if it takes 6 seasons, it better be answered.

You have seen through the sludge. Congrats.
You missed one key piece of Lost: The collective experience.
That's really what made Lost, and probably allowed many folks the ability to look past this giant flaw, and the simple will of the writers to do whatever they wanted for no reason at all.
I don't blame those who do, it's easy to get caught up in the fun of speculating, THAT had meaning for them.
It's not about needing or wanting answers, either, it's about satisfying storytelling. Lost can't stand without its experience. That makes it great, but also makes it impossible to recreate.

Makes sense. The 'water cooler effect.'

i think something people that watch it all back to back miss to is all the Easter Eggs that are in the show. When it was going live after each episode people would post screen caps of different things and you'd be amazed at watch you'd miss just watching it or at least me anyways.

Right idea, but I would say Lost went beyond that honestly..
The writers and creators had some great momentum to build on just from fan speculation and interaction. The sad thing is, they never did anything with it. That is the biggest loss for fans. I think they used fan theories as a way to AVOID story-lines and resolutions, rather than make them richer. This makes most resolutions weak in return (whatever happened to the Walt supermind theory, that was a fun one?). Some people just enjoyed the experience so much that they liked that writers "were trying to outsmart them just to outsmart them."

Yes this is very true. The week in between episodes had doc Jensen articles, lost screen cap websites, lost podcast with the producers, etc. also just having to wait made you over analyze everything. It was a blast.
But to me the strength if the series is more in the effective way they did character development. Even the flash sideways, which put some people off because it didnt "count," had some key character insights and development. It's still overall my favorite series and personally I thought the ending was just about as good as it could be.

I've tried starting the series twice. Never grabbed me.

If the pilot didn't get you hooked then you probably won't be if you continue. I think the pilot is one of the top 10 or maybe even 5 best episodes. Although I think you should at least try through "walkabout."
