Say 150 and up... How many RPM's do you usually run your engines at when you go out.
Posted on 7/4/13 at 1:44 pm to OhFace55
All engines have a recommended cruise RPM. Usually something like 70% of max rated RPM. For most 2 stroke engines its in the low 4000's. I'm not familiar with what the four strokes are rated at.
You should be able to find your engine's recommended cruise RPM somewhere.

200 HPDI- make a 20 mile run out to the Biloxi Marsh as my normal haul.
Around 3700 rpm.
When it's glassy calm and I'm late- 5500 rpm about 54 mph.
I fish with a guy in the Keys who has over 4000 hours on a pair of 250 4 strokes- he claims to have neve run them over 4000 rpm.

Yamaha 150 4 stroke
I usually cruise around 4000-4500 rpm. Which would be 35 mph up to 39 mph.

Is 5200 too high on a suzuki 150 4 stroke?
Edit: just saw the suzuki website has a range of 5500-6100 . Seems high to me.

It depends on how rough it is, but in the bayous and protected bays, 4500-5000... Very rarely run wide open unless running from weather or late...200 verado

I've heard zukes have a different lower unit gear ratio than others--might have something to do with it.

4 strokes are meant to run at higher RPMs. At least thats what my mechanic says. Having said that, twin yam 150 4 strokes. I cruise at 4-4200 rpm about 33 mph. Dad runs his optimaxs 3800-4000 but he is conservative.

Always interesting to see. Twin etec 200s for me. I cruise at 4100 which is around 36 for me depending on how much gas I am holding.
