we are going to have a vastly improved team, but in no way are we close to having a complete roster to compete for a title

we'll likely sign a stop-gap at the 3 and 5 and pick up some min salary guys for the bench

next year we'll have the ability to use some exceptions, get another draft pick or 2, and possibly sign more vets to min deals. then we'll have another year

this isn't exactly "tanking" but having major holes isn't a big deal. the past 13 months have completely re-shaped our roster. we have 3 star-potential young players and one of the most complimentary bench/role players in teh NBA

we just need a role player at the 3/5 anyway. defensive/rebounding guys to comliment our 4 offensive options. those are plentiful and cheap, we just may not get them THIS offseason

Who is saying title? And lets just see how the roster shapes up, the trade hasn't even gone through yet.

Agreed - what's the long game tho? Hope AD, Holiday, EG, and Reke gel and become better than their current levels and perhaps strike gold with a draft pick in the next few years?

We abandoned the OKC model obviously with these moves.

You're right, and that's fine. This team is in "win now" mode in the sense that we're no longer tanking. Not in the sense that it's championship time.

Since everyone here likes to compare us to OKC, I think we'll resemble something between the latter part of their 08-09 campaign and the 09-10 season; I don't see 50 wins like 09-10 OKC had, but it'll be better than their 08-09 season.

The long game is hoping they gel and continue improving, and continuing to make moves to improve the 3 and the 5. The "core four" are locked in through 2016, so there's no rush.

get a defensive/rebounding 5 and a defensive/shooting 3 (if we could sign dorell wright somehow, it would fit actually)

defensive/rebounding 5s can be had for exception-levels of salary (hell just look at lopez's deal). we'll have a shot at some down the road

Well stated. Exactly how I feel. I think a lot of people want to plug in guys to play each position just for the sake of having those spots "filled." Give me a handful of young really good prospects and we will figure it out, butfor tthe love don't trade away a potentially very good player in Gordon to get some average guys just for the sake of "filling" the 3 and 5 spots.

With the attacking backcourt we have now I'd love to put aminu back at 3

Sons, I'm just ready to see decent basketball. Its been atrocious the last couple seasons. I think we're a fringe 7-8 seed next season but then again you're talking an 18-20 game improvement to get there.

It just sucks the way the cap works that we have to trade a great 5 contract like Lopez just to pick up basically identical contract. I like Lopez and I just think he is the perfect fit right now for what we r building.

my hope is that Gordon's value goes up this season, and we turn him into a young star 5 down the road.

Agree. And still, this is a HUGE step in one offseason, imo. I'm pleased. It also further demonstrates to me that ownership is giving Demps what he needs to build a team.

totally agree. i'm not trying to state the opposite

i'll put it somewhat in perspective. the heat, in the offseason with the Decision, had basically teh biggest immediate building step in NBA history. they still needed 1 more offseason to complete the roster to win a title

we obviously didn't do THAT well, but i mean shheeeeyit

We did pretty damn close to being that well.

If everybody buys in and gels right, I think we can attract some vet 3's and 5's that are good players wanting to win a ring before they hang it up.

that's probably wishful thinking. for one, we're not a big market like Miami. for another, the Heat were a virtual lock to win the East and contend for the championship almost from the moment the Big 3 signed... we're still building a foundation

Well, sorry I was thinking we could be competing for championships sooner than later. Youre right. We are still new orleans...

miami isn't that big of a market

getting those vets to sign cheap deals while they title hunt comes down to (1) chances to win and (2) system

that kind of situation is 2-4 years down the road for us
