1.) Sit on chair
2.) Determine height of shoulder while sitting on said chair

How tall are you?

I'm 6'2" and most stand rails are too low for me.

I'm 5'10" and the old man is 6'. We usually use the plastic Walmart lawn chairs

Sitting or standing?

Stand on a hill (have to point gun barrel down) or on flat ground?

Personally, I prefer to stand to shoot. I usually cut small windows to look out if I decided to sit while hunting.

We shoot sitting. Stand is on a flat in hardwoods. 120 yards longest shot, some shots should be closer to stand

I think it also depends on how high the seat is. Maybe easier to build rails and then adjust seat height to make it work.

I say build your stand around a comfortable chair.
Sit in your chair of choice with your rifle, and be sure you can prop up on the wall without having to stand or modify your usual shooting position and make a shot close to the stand.
Also remember that when you have on a heavy jacket that can also work against you.

Some stands I hunt, I would have to stand up to shoot a deer 30 yards or closer.
That takes time theres a greater risk of getting busted standing up.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm goin to prevails is with room for adjustment between 32-40". Once in the air on sight, I'll adjust the rail using the chair I'll be hunting from. Good hunting to all. Bow season and tiger football will be here before u know it.
