Boat Trailer Inspection

Bought my very first one today. This particular boat/trailer is 10 years old.
I had no idea what they looked like and/or where to stick them. Lady said just to keep it in boat. I put it in my ziplock back with copy of reg, etc.
Btw, I assume a copy of my boat reg is ok? I never wanted to keep an original in fear of it getting wet. In fact I laminated the copy in the boat.

I thought they were ticketing trailers in parking lots? I would stick it somewhere where they could damn well see it.
I may have misunderstood the stories though but my understanding was they were just raping and pillaging uninspected trailers at boat launches.

keep it in boat
this is what I was told, and did the same, in my box with registration, insurance, etc.

I don't keep any of that stuff on the boat and I'm pretty sure others don't. Guess I'll have to start.
What exactly do they look at on the trailer and do you know if
you can get the inspection anywhere or does it have to be in the parish it's reg's in? TIA

quote:Yeah I'd definitely do so. That may be the first thing they ask for if you're checked.

As to what they check, she never left the desk. Irony of it all. I even have a wire disconnected that I need to drill (ground) and attach. I had brought a piece of wire to add and was going to pay them to do it while I was there. Not a big deal, just can't find my wire stipper and end attachment to mash on it to screw onto traler.
I did get the two year. Don't want to have to go make a special trip for that more than I have to.

From what I understood the inspection is stapled to your registration, not mounted to the boat.
I'd make a copy of that too

I hope you're right, we have one boat registered in Covington and one in NOLA. They stay down there unless a 'cane comes our way.
2 year tag is the way to go. Thanks.

This. The place who did my inspection stapled it for me. Said that was the only way it was legal. They definitely don't have any sticker that's attached to your trailer or license plate.

You want the inspection sticker attached(stapled) to your TRAILER registration not the boat registration. Has nothing to do with boats, they are checking all trailers. I got three of the them, the place never looked at the trailers, after I took the time and money to make sure they were legal.

So you're saying they just want some more $?

Tchfuncte tiger says your crazy for thinking that.

They gonna have to ticket me at least once before I get an inspection sticker on a trailer. That's the biggest bunch of BS I've ever heard of.

Word is that Green Jeans gets you as you're hauling your boat out at the launch not while parked....I went ahead and got one of my trailers done and they did check that the lights were working........guy at the inspection station says he hates it because he only gets $4 off a trailer inspection where he gets half of the money on other vehicle inspections so its just a pain in his arse backing up his parking lot.......pure money grab and of course the guys who can afford to pay the fine get targeted rather than every junk and "scrap" guy going down the road with no insurance and raggedy trailers falling apart

can you take the boat trailer to any ol' place that does car brake tags?
Posted on 7/2/13 at 8:53 pm to El Josey Wales
You are supposed to be able to get it done at any inspection station and my guy told me they have to inspect any vehicle (I asked him why he didn't just not inspect trailers)
