I had been using my PS3 to watch netflix, youtube, etc, but it has recently crapped out. I'd like to get something to stream movies and shite without paying a fortune. The Roku seems to have better reviews, but doesn't seem to have all the options that Apple TV has.

Any suggestions for these, or others, would be much appreciated.

I have a Roku with the game controller. I'm about to add Apple TV. Number 1 reason is apple added HBO Go and Watch ESPN. Roku doesn't have either for me since I have Comcast.

the thing thats cool about apple TV is that you can mirror whatever is on your phone on the tv. pretty sweet. I also dont think Roku has ESPN3 or watch ESPN whatever the hell its called

If you have Apple TV, is there any benefit to having Roku as well?

not that i know of

I think you can play angry birds on the Roku
and you could play on your ipad and mirror it to the tv if you actually think youd like to do that

I think it has more apps but shite you most likely wouldnt use.

I just recently got an Apple TV and really like it

no problem.

I feel like it has a really good picture on netflix and stuff too.

I just think that there is no reason to get a roku over apple tv if you have other apple devices. You can play the music on your phone through it and have it play through surround sound if you have that. mirroring sold it for me. the other stuff is extra.

I download movies and Tv shows and convert them to MP4 and put them in iTunes. I can watch them right from the Apple tv

I have both. Roku has a USB port on the side so you can pop in a flash drive and watch movies from it. Apple TV is nice because you can watch any movie that in your iTunes folder without actually having to mirror your screen, meaning you can watch the movie and still do something else on your computer. I believe Roku supports more video formats.

If you don't download movies then that probably doesn't matter to you.

Three rooms with Netflix instead of two...that and games, but the games aren't that good. Roku will go in kids room. Apple TV in living room so we can watch more football games.

I wanted to really bad. Wife was against it greatly. Now that you can have HBO and ESPN, there's really no reason for cable.

Except for needing cable to have access to those services.

I just got an Apple TV yesterday ($60 brand new in box).

Haven't set up yet but I'm looking forward to the Airplay feature as well as the netflix, hbo go, espn, etc. Did away with cable...not worth it imo.

Friend's parents. They don't use it. Offered to pay some cash but they said don't worry. Covers my WatchESPN too. I have my own netflix (not that cheap).

Then you won't be able to sign in to ESPN3, WatchESPN, or HBOGo...kind of sucks at the moment, but we are still tied to the cable companies.

Of course, like HBO GO, you’re only granted access to this plethora of sports action if you already have a pay-TV subscription to ESPN’s channels.

The only reason I can see getting the roku is if you primarily use Amazon instant instead of Netflix because the Apple TV doesn't have an app for it and I doubt they ever will.
