This is one of the toughest jobs in the country, I'm not sure Maestri has the time or the energy to turn that program around.

What division is New Orleans ? Are they still Division I or "FBS" ? I thought they were going down to D3 or such?

UNO needs to fold their athletic department. When I went there for grad school, the basketball team had under 100 fans in the stands.

Disagree. Most of the things holding UNO athletics back(no fanbase, facilities, money) isn't nearly as big a negative since most schools don't care about their baseball teams. UNO is in a rare area of the country where college baseball actually means something. Once they get back to normal scholarship numbers it'll be a run of the mill job IMO.

and Maestri gets the attention of every HS coach out there - instantly.

It would be great to see Privateer baseball formidable again...

In about 4-5 years it'll be a run of the mill job, I agree but right now its really tough job. Looking at the current kids on scholarship and the incoming players, they're going to be bad for a while.

I disagree. I think that they will get pretty good real quick. That new stadium is nice and being in the Southland will help them. They will be one of the better teams in the state in short order.

Dropping the program is just what everyone on this board recommends for schools that have shitty athletic programs and fan support. Oh, Tulane/UNO etc. sucks, they should just drop the program

You obviously haven't seen much of the kids who play on the team. They've got 1 kid who can pitch and 1 kid who can hit. The rest of the team is D3 talent.
I've also seen some of the guys they have coming in, not very good.

It's baseball though. Load that roster with jucos(get LSU-E and Delgado on speed dial) to turnover that roster in a couple years.
