Near Perkins/Kennilworth

LINK

Appears as though the collective opinion of this board is that it is weak. Nothing to be excited about, then?

Bad idea. Leave well enough alone I say.

I like the place and really like the owners. I just don't know that BR is viable.

Surprised it's taken them this long to open one in BR. I'm sure it's going to print money like the one in Nola does. People love that shite.

It's not bad, it's just not very good. Especially considering the prices for the very overrated, small tacos .. and the fricking 1-2 hour wait for a table.

What?

It may do better in BR then in NOLA, if that is possible. I wish they would pick up stakes here and move the whole operation there.

Most overrated place in New Orleans.

Me too. I hate when local business owners provide a product people want.

This has been in the works for a very long time now.

They are also opening a Deli next door to Rumhouse on Magazine.

Not certain they are locals.

The food is meh. If people want to wait over 5 minutes for that, they should just move out of the city. Old NOLA link

McDonalds are prevalent, I dislike them even though they provide products people want.

That couldn't only be based on my opinion, based on experience living in both towns.

Rum House is the greatest mystery of NOLA. IMO

Maybe some of the investors are not local, but the main guy who owns it is named Kelly and does indeed live in New Orleans. I happened to know his wife and him somewhat and they are great folks.

I can't comment on the food as I've never been, but good for them if they are expanding their little operation. I'm sure it will do well in Baton Rouge.

The Rum House is owned and operated by Kelly Ponder, Michael Buchert, and Terri Savoie. Ponder and Buchert, both originally from Baton Rouge and graduates of Catholic High and LSU

They were students at LSU. Not sure where from. Local enough for me.

Sounds logical.

True dat. This is like another McDonalds.

They have a business on Magazine where people have a plethora of options, and they don't only just survive, they kill it. They provide a product that people are willing to wait for, not like a Mcdonalds. I applaud them for that, and hope they do well in Nola and BR.

They are very local. I know them personally. Great guys.

I'm not a huge fan of the place, but its success is no mystery to me.

College kids and 20 somethings love it.

Again, I'll go and will route for the guys. I know Kelly and Mike and they are good guys. BR is just a tough nut.

Michael Buchert

At least he has a solid background.

"He's not a chef," Adjey said of Buchert, who has worked in a restaurant kitchen but built his career in the front of the house, notably during almost seven years at Serrano's Salsa Co.

You can tell.

Guess you're not interested in meeting up for Taco Tuesday.

It would make a killing in most cities in America if the location was right. People love that kind of food and atmosphere. You should read some of the Yelp reviews, they're pretty entertaining .. just to see how much people fricking love that place. Even go so far as to say such ridiculous compliments like how Rum House has a great Caribbean vibe because of the thatched roof bar and bright colors and how it feels like you're in a tiki bar in the Bahamas!
