Xavi
evidently checked out. I´m sure he was like WTF? Ramos probably insisted, and he did nothing. This is likely what happened. I wonder where Iniesta was for the pre PK discussion, as well.

ramos has always been a pk taker in shootouts, so clearly he's one of the better options on the team. just doesn't seem like the best.

Ronaldo has taken most of the PKs at Real Madrid that i've seen. But that's not a huge sample size.

I dont recall seeing much discussion (at least not televised). Is Ramos the captain? I was surprised to see him on the FK earlier as well, it was about 30 yds out if I remember correctly. Ball landed in the upper level

There was no discussion. Ramos scooped the ball up after the penalty was whistled, and immediately ran to the spot.

True. I remember they've had a couple arguments about it on the pitch.

I always enjoy watching arguments between players for taking penalties and free kicks. It seems like the manager would have laid out who was taking what freekick depending on the position on the pitch and the players on the field.

Egos always getting in the way.

Craig Bellamy has a story about this in his new autobiography. Apparently Rafa would set the PK takers for each match. Well classic Bellamy wins a PK and then demands to take it. Whoever was designated for that match eventually let him have it. He converted.

After the match Rafa called him into his office and let him know he was being fined and wouldn't make the bench for the next match.

Not sure if all managers have a similar process or not.

The way Espana played, I don't think it mattered who took the PK. They sucked on so many levels in that game...

Sounds absurd but its the same at every level. I loved youth soccer where your team wins a penalty and every hand shoots up and looks to your coach
