I'm more into grunge than metal, but I may have missed my calling with Pantera. Watching some of their live shows, they may be the baddest live band out there..,,

My favorite band of all time. Sad I never got to see them. I saw Dime and Vinnie with Damageplan a few times but its not the same. Phil still brings it live.

Pantera is my absolute go-to for lifting music. It's good, not too yelly, and just fricking rocks. Sad they will never be able to play again.

Down is incredible. Down II is one of the best albums ever made IMO

Phil Anselmo is metal personified. I really like the music he made with Superjoint Ritual, too.

Wow. I don't even think a lot of down fans would say its their best effort, but more power to ya man.

That album is all over the place, but it's still good. The seed, and lies are two songs that are great but they sound like covers. I always thought shattered sounded like a priest song that should have been on painkiller album, the seed should have been on halfords crucible album.

NOLA is my favorite album of all time. I bought it the day it came out and listened to it nonstop for over a month straight. I have to admit that after seeing them do the same setlist live over and over consisting of about 75-100% songs from NOLA, I'm kinda burned out on it.

Phil's solo project sounds more in the vein of SJR but better. I'm looking forward to it.

Do they play anything from III on their live sets? That album has a few long winded but crushing songs.

Not anymore. I wish they would though. They played a few of those songs after the album came out but not in the last few years.

I'm gonna have to give it a listen in that case. I loved the style of music SJR played, but he tried to do some kind of pseudo political commentary on the second album and it made it kind of hard to listen to, IMO.

I enjoy it for that reason...it's blues, it's metal, it's a lot of things, which really shows Phil in different levels. I like all three albums a lot, but for me II stands out.

Back to Pantera:
I can't really pick a favorite song nor album, but I think Hollow has to be up there just for the melodic first half and then it turning into a fricking riot for the final third. Mouth for War gets me incredibly jacked up, same with Yesterday Don't mean shite.

Musically, I think Floods was their finest effort...(may be a little crazy to say, however)

Vulgar Display of Power is one of my all time favorite albums. Phil's voice is amazing and the grooves are insane. DOWN - NOLA is also a favorite. Both have been in my rotation for years.
