That is the biggest miss-use of that term I have ever seen. In-between the 3, you have one all star appearance (not even a start). You are projecting off of pure potential and hoping that the most fragile player in the NBA doesn't get hurt again.
I should have put potential legit big 3. that was bad phrasing on my part.

That has nothing to do with you saying we have a big three.

you are effectively screwed for the next season because you have no pick and little cap space.

Or maybe we become a better team with Anthony Davis developing more.

I should have added potential in my post. what i'm trying to say is those three have the ability to be the nucleus of a team we could build a contender around, i'm sure you may disagree. it would take a very long time to keep hoping for a lucky bounce of the lottery ball and draft picks panning out into stars. I think we are in a good place right now

It was very lucky and the chances of it happening again are small, but that's the only surefire way small market teams can compete.

Or they can make trades like Memphis did.

There isn't a set way to build a team, sometimes you have to take chances and sometimes those chances pay off.

Actually I agree that those 3 could be great together, but it's contingent on Davis' health and maturity and especially on Gordon's health and his willingness to buy in to the team.

Maybe it's my pessimistic nature when it comes to the Hornets/Pelicans franchise, but there are a lot of extra factors involved and pretty much every one of them has to go right for us to just be in contention for top 6 in the west.

Drafted Conley, Gasol, and then hit the jackpot on the Zach Randolph trade who was considered a lost cause.

That's just as risky as the draft.

we have a legit big 3 in jrue, Gordon and AD,

The top third of the western conference will be the judge of that.

but I think the factors that have to go right for this team to be legit are much more likely than continuously tanking and hoping the player we pick turns into a star. Anthony davis and winning the #1 pick was an extremely lucky occurrence. it's not likely to happen continuously and if we are that bad to get that low multiple times than we are far away from hoping to be good.

Conley is the only guy drafted by them that was an impact player during the playoffs

Not hoping to draft the next Lebron, just want more contributors to this team. When Stern said we were one player away 2 years ago, he lied. We have a lot of bench guys that would not be or barely be rotational players on championship teams.

We need more quality depth.

With not much cap space and no pick next year, we have only one true 5 in Lopez, Darius Miller at best case scenario will be our back up at the 3, Brian Roberts and Lance Thomas do not belong in the NBA, and a huge wild card in Rivers.

We have Ryno, Jason Smith, and now Vasquez (if we keep him) and then the talent level drops off big time.

I mean, it's more of a big 2 than a Big 3 right now. Just not quite sold on EG yet.

throw an improving rivers in there, which isn't that crazy to think about considering how he started playing before his injury, and that's a pretty solid bench imo. not top of the league solid but definitely serviceable and able to compliment our starters well

A lot of things would have to go right for one player to force a 20 game swing.

-Healthy Gordon
-More experienced and improved Davis and Rivers
-Less pressure on Ryno to carry the scoring production
-Improved SF play
-Improved bench play

It certainly wouldn't be just because of Jrue, but if the rest of the offseason plays out well we could be in very good shape
