I'm really starting to like the idea of Martell Webster

with holiday/gordon/davis, we have a solid 3-man core. they should really help our defensive rankings jump a good bit, so a defensive option at the 3 isn't as big of a concern, imho

webster is one of those "perfect form, pretty shot, but doesn't go in" guys, but lsat year it started to fall

he shot 42% from 3 last year, and hit about 50% from the corner

he's got defensive issues, namely b/c he has serious injury issues. that's the red flag. if he's healthy, he's OK at D...but who knows what happens to his health. also, he was basically in a "last chance to save a career" mode last year

he's not a perfect player (hell he's below average), but we likely don't have the assets to get a perfect player. he should be a good value, and he fills a need (both in position and style)

a late-game lineup of holiday/gordon on the perimeter and anderson/webster on the wings...with AD running the baseline, could become a really effective offensive set. the defense of the "big 3" should make up for rybot and webster's defensive issues

ideally we could sign webster to a 2 year deal with the 2nd being a team option, that at the least gives us a stop-gap 3 for 2013-14

Injuries scare me with him.

Make an investment into a guy who has had one injury free year? Risky

BourbonStShots just published an article pushing for Earl Clark. They cite his rebounding rate and improvement from 3 as selling points. I kind of agree.

I've never been a Webster fan. But he will be in the conversation I imagine, along with these others I think.

On a two year deal he makes sense to me

well like i said, webster isn't even a "good" player, but he's a decent fit and should be cheap as frick (like $1.5-2M likely)

Wonder if they'll try to keep him or Budinger. Can't imagine they keep both + Pekovic.

I think Ariza will be overpaid by a contender looking to fill a hole.

i love AK but we'll need to carve out at least $8M in cap room to sign him i'd imagine

minny would have to take on lopez or vazquez

if that investment is less than $2.5M next year, that's not really a risky investment

If he was going to only get 2.5, I'd be all over getting him and Copeland both.

But he might get 5 mill. In the past he might have.

However, this is the first year we should really start to feel the effects of the CBA. A lot of people predict the demise of the NBA middle class players. We'll see.

Other FA SFs I think could be solid for the Pels, with last years salary

Alan Anderson ($850K)
Mike Dunleavy ($3.7M)
Matt Barnes ($850K)
Brandon Rush ($4M player option)
Reggie Williams ($2.6M)

Webster isn't that mobile. Pels need an active defender at the 3. You're basically asking Webster to guard the alpha perimeter players. I'm not comfortable asking that from him.

Why are people saying Ariza?

He's not a FA.
