Carmine's

But if you're on the Upper East Side.. 84th Street and 2nd Avenue.. I like Dorrian's. Traditional New York Pub.. great food.. very reasonably priced. Great place to relax, talk with the bartender, have some food, a few drinks, and watch a game. Usually a few good looking girls hanging around. (Gwyneth Paltrow hangs out there) and they like Louisiana folks..

Had a fantastic meal at Osteria Morini a few weeks ago; fantastic pastas, cured meats, a killer bone in aged strip and delicious rosemary basted porchetta. Also, Mad at About Chicken inside a record store called Turntable for Korean fried chicken, soju, and beer.

Carol and Michael Dorrian have been friends of mine for over 25 years. I know that place as a second home. The people that have lunch at Dorrians or brunch on Sunday are late 30's to 40's and their kids...
If you know anything about Dorrian's you know it's a restaurant/pub by day..It's exactly as I described it and Gwyneth Paltrow goes there.

I didn't tell him to go there on Saturday night and hang out with the bridge and tunnel lurkers. Somebody from Louisiana would NOT fit in at Dorrian's on a Saturday night.

never been at lunch... only been at night and it was a after college trying to meet somebody crowd. i def wouldn't recommend it for lunch, dinner or as a bar unless you are with a couple wingmans and trying to get laid. i'd rather send them to brother jimmy's

I've both eaten at Dorrian's and been this guy:

we had a big group of us and had a great time. but yeah it can certainly become a weird mix of fratty douches and bridge and tunnel douches some times.

it was right around the corner from my buddies' place and if we were hanging in their neck of the woods we usually ended up at Dorrian's or Rathbone's. Also right there is Biddy's and Auction House which are good neighborhood bars.

auction house was on my street

i lived on 89th and 2nd and i walked by there everyday for a few weeks before i found out it was a bar and became my spot.

i know the upper east gets a uncool rap, but i liked living up there it was peaceful. just sucked paying cabs b/c i mainly went out downtown.

you're right, i'm way cooler than that place will ever be.

I lived on 83rd btwn 1st and 2nd. My g/f lives on 86th and 3rd, next door to Equinox.

Which reminds me.. There's a great little neighborhood Italian place on 83rd Street between 1st and 2nd Ave. It's called 83 1/2. It's around the corner from Dorrian's.

You can take a walk in Central Park.. walk to The Mall and check out Bethesda Fountain. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is right nearby.. Walk a couple blocks to Dorrians and have a few drinks.. Then go to 83 1/2 for dinner.. Then go back to Dorrian's and throwdown!

The sites you see walking around in that neighborhood are unbelievable. Some serious money in that area.

yeah in 20 years the whole gowanus area will be redeveloped and from the brooklyn heights all the way to prospect park will be one beautiful neighborhood. I loved joggin all through the there it's beautiful most visitors never get to see brooklyn like that. they are building a whole foods now in gowanus and it's a big development coming in that's gonna look like a river walk, it's gonna be awesome.
