He did mention liking crime shows/thrillers and not sci-fi, so adjust your recommendations accordingly.

I have pretty much exhausted myself with series. I loved fringe even though I never finished it.

Fringe is a great show if you like sci-fi. Well worth watching. Watch The Wire if you are interested in inner city thug/gang/drug culture and city government corruption.
