re: RIP Nelson Mandela?

quote:

A few extremists in his organization does not mean his organization as a whole. The ANC advocated mostly peaceful resistance, and then when they had no choice, began strategic bombings that avoided and minimized casualties. The radical and violent ones were the PAC, and the Afrikaaner gov't who paid Zulu militants to raise hell and undermine the resistance. Yes, it was a moral failing of his to not condemn his wife publicly, although he did divorce from her. That doesn't mean that his achievments are somehow nonexistent.

Thanks for being an apologist. Dude this is the same shite We hear about the religion of Islam. . "Oh it's mostly peaceful. But every so often extremists blow up a school bus full of children or saw the head off of some infidel. But hey don't judge them for it. They're really peaceful"!
I love your "they were peaceful til they weren't logic"! The same can be said for The Taliban, PLO, IRA, etc. terrorists are terrorists. Quit defending them.

re: RIP Nelson Mandela?

As a white South African, I feel like I am qualified to respond to this. The problems after Apartheid were not Mandela's fault. His vision and message of forgiveness were the best possible for South Africa. As soon as he gave up power, it went to a weak leader in Thabo Mbeki and blood-thirsty revenge minded people like Jacob Zuma.

I'd love to hear what tigerinthebueche has to say in response to this.

I've heard he was kind of a scumbag. Is this true?

You may want to take your own advice and read history.

glad you asked. See below:

quote:

The fact is that even Amnesty International refused to take on Nelson Mandela’s case because they asserted that he was no political prisoner but had committed numerous violent crimes and had had a fair trial and a reasonable sentence.

Nelson Mandela was the head of UmKhonto we Sizwe, (MK), the terrorist wing of the ANC and South African Communist Party. He had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilizing terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station. Many innocent people, including women and children, were killed by Nelson Mandela’s MK terrorists.

South African President P.W. Botha had, on a number of occasions, offered Nelson Mandela freedom from prison, if he would only renounce terrorist violence. This Mandela refused to do. - Invictus Idolatry

what a great guy

I'm sure Mandela had good intentions, but his early associations and acts cannot be dismissed because he challenged apartheid. He may die a man of peace, but he spent his early years as something other. THAT cannot be overlooked.
