Yes and no
Buying big but I am not buying so big that it takes up more space than needed. No matter how big you buy, you will out grow it at some point. If that is the case, I will buy a seperate smaller safe for additional guns, or a safe just for overflow such as valuables etc.

Not going too big. Those things take up a LOT of space

Still looking and the prices definately vary.
Most residentual home safes are the big brand bought from the big box stores. like Cannon, Liberty, Browning, winchester, etc. These all vary in size, weight, capacity, fire rating, locking bolts, but all seen to be the same on steel thickness of 12 ga. Anything with beefed up locking bolts on all four sides and a steel thickness of 10 ga or thicker then steps you up into the higher end model safes such as Fort Knox, etc.
So the safes I am looking at all have 12 ga thickness, a height of 60-72 inches, holds 48 guns, 30-45 fire rating and a price range from 1000-1800. These vary in locking bolts. 2-3 sides at most is what I see on locking bolts. The weight of most of these as well is between 600-700 lbs. Not the high end safe weight of 800 and up but good enought for what I am looking for.

So it is comming down to brands. Liberty cannon Browning etc. I read some of the brands have had issues with the electrical key pads. Owners punch in the code and nothing happens. Service call out to fix it. This is not good. Would a mechanical dial prevent this, or a total different brand, or was this just a fluke?

I am still looking and unless I come across big $$ for a Fort Knox, etc, I will just most likely buy a Cannon or Liberty. For home use, quick smash and grab, I think these will be fine.



I found something that is 40 x 24 inches at home and used it as a template to see if I could fit something this size in my house, down the hall and into my bedroom. It will be tight real tight. I will need something like a piano dolly so I can spin into place. I would hate to buy this size and not be able to fit it into my room.
I can buy a 25 gun safe or maybe 2 25 gun safes but not real big on that idea but it could work.

Other option is to put this safe in the living room. Once there maybe build a nice cabinet around it. Decrative piece.

I worry about rolling it on tile. I guess depends on the dolly used. Maybe lay down something to roll on?

I sure as hell do not want to move this safe 2 or 3 times. I need to find out what will fit.
