Old Fashioned Root Beer Float

During the afternoon at work today I stepped outside to the parking lot to get some fresh air. It didn't take me long to retreat back into the air conditioned comfort of the office. It was hot outside! I thought about going to get another sno ball like I did last week but I would have had to get in a hot truck and byt the time the a/c would have been blowing cold air I would have probably been drenched in sweat so I just settled for a bottle of cold water from the fridge. I did get to thinking about all the refreshing way to cool down and a root beer float was one of them.
On the way home this evening I had to make a stop at Dorignac's so while there I picked up some Kleinpeter's vanilla ice cream and a six pack of Abita Root Beer. I guess you can tell where this is headed. Tonight I indulged in an old favorite, A Root Ber Float! Wow! That was really good.
Have a look for yourselves.........
Notice how the bottom outside of the jar started getting frosty.
Using an old fashioned Ball canning jar just seemed right for it too.

You have brought back old memories. On hot summer evenings, my Grandma would make root beer floats for my Grandpa and me. I must have one this week. Thanks

Looks awesome. I probably haven't had one since I was a kid.

I can't tell you the last time I had a root beer float. Probably when I was a little kid, maybe 7 or 8 years old.
My dad used to take me to this little place, long gone now, and we'd stand there and eat/drink our root beer floats. Good memories.

My grandmother used to make them in these boot mugs.
The ice cream would always collect at the bottom of the boot, by the toe, and my spoon wouldn't reach it. It drove me nuts trying to get that last bit of ice cream.

Looks awesome.
Perhaps because I grew up in the North, I prefer a black cow, which is simply a root beer float that hits a blender for mere seconds, just to get some smaller bite sized chunks floating about. A&W made killer black cows back in the day.

Still a menu item at Frosttop.

I drink a few a year, and I actually have a large glass mug from Frostop!
My grandfather was given one after he did some electrical work on the BR location (80s).

Did one of these this past Sunday--not nearly as nice though as I was at Jason's Deli. After finishing my drink, filled the lower half of my cup with soft serve vanilla the topped it with coke (I prefer coke floats to rb floats but both are great).

Delicious!
We were making floats so often for us employees at work that we started adding them to the menu for customers.
