I'll be accompanying my daughter on her 8th grade class trip to London next March and would love to see an EPL match before we leave. I'm a Chelsea fan and my daughter plays club soccer year-round, so this would be a big deal if we could pull this off.
It turns out that Chelsea plays at Aston Villa on Saturday, March 15th --- which would work out great since we're heading back stateside the following day. I realize that this particular match may be a hard ticket to score, so I'd be willing to attend some other match being held on the 15th.

Any suggestion(s) on how to best secure tickets would be most appreciated as I gather some of you have attended EPL matches before. In the meantime I'm just scanning the Aston website to get as much general ticket info as I can. Thanks!

When I went and saw newcastle I had to become a member for i think $30 for the right to buy tickets from the team which go on sale a couple of weeks before each match. I think most teams have a similar setup.

They don't have a huge secondary market over there like they do here although I think it can be done. Not 100% sure.

Also keep in mind that matchdates can and do change due to TV or domestic/european cup fixtures.

Interestingly, I did see the options (both on the Chelsea and Aston sites) to obtain a membership that would allow for ticket purchasing privileges. In this case, I likely will explore the membership options with Aston. Good point about match date changes. While the Chelsea/Aston game is definitely "option 1", we'll try to be flexible with March 15 being the only realistic date before us.

You do realize Villa plays in Birmingham? I know this may seem obvious, but I'm just making sure in addition to your ticket situation, that you're looking into rail passage from London to the Midlands and back that day.

Thanks. I actually hadn't taken that into account. Will try to determine what additional rail fare is needed along with determining the travel logistics from our hotel.

Just pulled this info on the London to Birmingham excursion. Looks like a single fare will run about 45 pounds on the low end

---------

London to Birmingham train times information

Trains to Birmingham depart from London Euston or Marylebone every ten minutes on average. The journey takes one and a half to two hours, although some indirect routes do take longer. Trains terminate at either Snow Hill or New Street station in Birmingham. Services are run by Virgin Trains, Chiltern Railways and London Midland.

The trains are very nice usually. It is kind of expensive but I enjoyed my ride from London to Liverpool. Very beautiful countryside.

Sounds good. Was last in Europe about 18 years ago. I loved traveling between countries on the various rail lines.

I would definitely do either the Spurs or Liverpool/ManU game if the Chelsea match falls through. My daughter I'm sure will be thrilled just to see any match.

I really appreciate all of these "tidbits"

You could also try to catch a match in The Championship (English 2nd division) if the matches you're interested in don't pan out.

Just found the schedule for London based teams on March 15, 2014.

Millwall v Charlton Athletic
Queens Park Rangers v Yeovil Town
Reading v Derby County
Watford v Barnsley

The London based teams in the Championship are in bold.
The teams on the left are the home teams.
Watford is close to London as is Reading.

Oh my! Good thing I'm trying to make sense of all of this in advance. Of course a nominal fee to cover transport and the like will be in order.

thats how most clubs do it, only members can buy tickets, non members can get them right before the game if its not sold out
