I'm adding one on my policy as we speak. But good news for you, girls are cheaper than boys. Go figure that one...

Drivers education and good grades will help the rates some. Adding a teen I definitely shop around. State farm is good but it can't hurt to see if you can beat them.

Would that be great?! No telling where half of those crazies are now.

I've had State Farm forever. At one time had 5 vehicles insured, 2 of which were driven by teenage girls. I would usually stop by once a month and hand them my paycheck.
I shopped around, but in the end just stayed with them b/c of the good customer service they have given me.

I wanna say about $130/month. (I hope you were joking about not wanting to know)

Oh, and you can save a nice chunk if your daughter gets the good grade discount. I think it's 3.0 or above, and it's 15% off, which is nice when they first start driving because it's so damn expensive.

She did drivers ed and she has great grades. It's crazy that she's even driving. I hate it

Make sure when you compare, they quote you exactly what you have. State Farm is pretty competitive on rates. A lot of people will give you a much lower price, but sneak in lower limits, or higher deductibles, or remove coverages without telling you to get the price lower.

I found the same thing...got a whole bunch of quotes from other companies and ended up staying with state farm...I have never had trouble with them when it is their turn to pay...

Thats the boat I am in. I have been with the same state farm agent since I was first driving. But I am eligible for usaa and can save over 1300 bucks year. I hate to do it but that way too much money to throw away.

I just meant sorry I didn't ask and just assumed. $130/ mo? I want to say we were quoted way more than that. Well, her dad told me it was a crazy amount per month. But I will call my insurance. $130 isn't bad.

My other daughter isn't far behind. I might need 3 jobs. Or a husband.

If I had to do it all over again, that is probably what I would do. I saved a few bucks by lumping cars, house and boat all together and held my tickets to a minimum.
I don't think State Farm can match USAA, but you might see if they can work with you on your rates.

Part of it has to do with the car they drive, and what coverage you have. If they have a nice car, and you have full coverage, it will be a lot higher.

FWIW, I make them put up some of the money and get them cheap cars. And then I only carry minimum limits on them because they don't have any assets, and if they are in an accident, the other party or attorney will only go for policy limits. They'll never go after them personally after, because they don't own anything. It's been my philosophy and it saves me on policy rates.

State farm can't compete. This was straight from mouth of friend from high school that is a agent. She says she has tryed time and time again but she just can't match usaa.

That's great advice. And they will not have new cars. Isn't having an old car mandatory for a teenager? So you can tell your kids how crappy your first car was. At my daughters school some of these kids have range rovers and a Porsche. Wtf??? What will they have to look forward to in life?

It used to be mandatory, but not anymore. I can't believe what I see in the school parking lots. I didn't get my first new car until I was 26. And I bought it myself. I babied that thing. Piece of crap Mitsubishi Galant, but it was still brand new.
