Searched, but didn't find this discussed. When the UCLA batters bunt and run to first, they always run on the infield grass (not inside the marked 1st base running lane). This causes the fielder and/or 1st baseman to miss several balls and/or alters throws from the catcher. It certainly happened last night in the Miss St. vs UCLA game. Anyone know why this is not enforced? It happened in the LSU game as well. It is very apparent they are taught to run to 1st base this way on a bunt. Not crying over split milk, but the rule says, "“If the batter-runner is outside the running lane and alters the throw or interferes with the attempted catch of the thrown ball or is hit by the throw, the batter-runner shall be called out. EXCEPTION: The batter-runner is permitted to exit the three-foot running lane by means of a step, stride, reach or slide in the immediate vicinity of first base and for the sole purpose of touching first or attempting to avoid a tag. He may exit the running lane on his last stride or step if he has been running legally within the running lane up to that point." At no time did the UCLA batter run in the running lane. I know players are taught to take advantage of the rule, but the rule is there for a purpose and should be enforced. All of UCLA's unearned runs have made a difference in this World Series.

You've highlighted probably the least enforced rule in college baseball.

UCLA is bushleague

They play that way b/c they can't win playing the respectful way.

I lost a little respect for UCLA on the fake pick off play vs. LSU, and I definitely lost all respect on the final out when the trashy RFer chopped his throat. That shite does not belong in baseball.

I usually watch almost every game in the CWS. I havent watched 1 since we went out, the games are painful to watch. Not because LSU isnt in it, because I've watched a bunch of CWS games when LSU isn't in it, but because they are unwatchable. The NCAA has taken the fun out of college baseball especially having the CWS in this venue with these bats and current ball. They need to make a change, and fast.

Thus many coaches teach to do exactly what UCLA is doing.

UCLA also does the "in the vacinity" at second base during a double play. Also a unenforced rule.

I agree.
I don't know what the fix is (I don't think it is as easy as lowering the seams on the ball).
Before, the CWS would draw in even the most casual fan b/c of the excitement and ability for great comebacks.
Now the CWS is in real danger of losing any/all casual fans as well as true baseball fans that just can't stand to watch the equivalent of a soccer match.
If they don't make a change, the CWS will become the woman's Final Four.

EXACTLY! The CWS is starting to mirror a MLB game & that is the LAST thing college baseball fans want to see. Something needs to be done to fix the elimination of offense/homeruns/comebacks/& games where every pitch can change the game. The casual sports fan will not be drawn in to watching a pop fly/bunt fest.

I agree, Its so much better for 'power' teams like Indiana, LSU, Louisville, UNC, etc..losing the respectful way...

Nice. More ad hominem attacks against the original poster. How original for this board.

For once, could you ANSWER THE frickING QUESTION?

He asked if what they are doing is illegal, since the rules state that it is. Whether the guy is a whiny sour grapes LSU fan is irrelevant, so STOP frickING BRINGING IT UP.

No wonder people in this country are ignorant and stupid. They'd rather shoot the messenger than have a rational discussion.

You're pathetic man.

Play to win the game, they were smart.

What about when teams do trick plays in football?

What about when Matt Flynn tossed the ball over his head on a fake FG?
What about when Sean Payton called for that crazy onside kick?

Tricking the other team is part of the sport.

YOU are an arse.
Here are the scores from Sunday the 23rd in MLB:
5-3, 13-5, 7-5, 7-6, 8-0, 3-1, 7-4, 7-6, 14-6, 10-9, 7-2, 4-2, 3-1, 6-3, 2-1.
With a couple of exception, I WISH the CWS was that bad. Don't remember hearing this much complaining last year. Might be an anomaly this year. We lost. We will be back next year. Move on.

Kind of ironic that you post that when no one in this thread has called out the op, everyones calling out the retard that said ucla is disrespectful for the way they are playing the game. If only people in this country werent so stupid and ignorant.
