I currently have a Southwest Visa but it seems like I can get the same rewards and more if I switch to the Sapphire. Just wondering if anyone has a sapphire and what they think about it.

I have it and like it.......not sure if they have the big rewards point bonus if you spend $3K in the first three months or not, but if they do jump on it. The bonus points paid for 2 round trip tickets, and a rental car for 4 days on our recent trip to Georgia.

I also have a Freedom card and the only thing I don't like about Sapphire is they don't have the 5% categories. To get around this, we keep the Freedom card, use it for the bonus categories and then use the Sapphire for everything else. The points are transferable, so it works out well.

Am I right in thinking that, I am missing out on a lot of rewards by using the southwest card instead of sapphire.

Didn't realize this. Have the Freedom, but hesitant to get the Sapphire due to the annual fee after the first year.

The annual fee is worth it my opinion. And if you really don't want to pay it, you could always cancel it after you cash in on your 40,000 bonus points. They also have a 1:1 point transfer to southwest rapid rewards. So that is about $850 in fares if you fly southwest.

Get the sapphire and supplement it with the freedom for the rotating rewards categories

It is also what I do currently.

The Sapphire Preferred has an annual fee while the regular Sapphire does not FWIW

That's not the most important difference either.

Regular Sapphire also does NOT allow you to transfer to UR Rewards partners. You will not be able to transfer your points to airline miles with the regular Sapphire.

Also the spend bonus is smaller as well.
