Any of you going to the World Cup next summer?
I would like to make the trip and I'm curious if any of you have done any initial planning?
And what part of the tourney would you/will you go?
I don't frequent this board so there may be a thread someone could link me to.

There have been other threads, but people have understandably seemed to be in the very, very early stages of planning

Any earthly idea how much money it may cost to have a comfortable (by that I mean, no hotels where there is >50% of getting shanked) trip to Brazil for one or 2 games?

I've been saving up vacation days and am in the early stages of planning. I'm hoping to make two games in the group stage.

Yea, I'm curious and also understand it is still early.

How much money do you plan on saving?
I want to do it, but have no idea what the benchmark, money-wise would be.

I am planning to be in Europe next summer during the tournament. Aside from actually going to the games, I think it would be fun to be in the big Euro cities for the games.
My cousin was going to school in Ireland in 2010 and was in Amsterdam for one of Netherland's knockout round matches and then was in Madrid for the final. The pics were amazing.
ETA: Also have friends in Barcelona and Utrecht (sp) Netherlands that I could stay with.

It will interesting for bars/restaurants since it's the first WC since 1994 where the matches will be late at night and into the morning in Europe.

I'm considering buying tickets with my USSSC membership and selling them (at a remarkable premium ) to one of you yahoos.

Rio and Sao Paulo are generally outrageously expensive
Saw a ridiculous estimate on another forum of > 3-5 x's normal high season values (essentially > Carnaval). I've only ever looked at Rio during the low season, and it was still ridiculous.
Would imagine that you could get something for a couple hundred dollars per night in some of the "smaller" cities, hostel even less

How can you even start planning right now without knowing where the USMNT will be playing their games? This is the challenge for me...to know which city to be in at what date so that iI can catch the right games.
I'm hoping to make it with friends...if not then I'm going to chill in Europe. I do it hostel style and fly for free on points so I plan on being under 3k all in for two weeks.

Go for it. I've heard that you don't need to buy tickets in advance. Apparently if you just go before the game and try to buy tickets at the stadium you should have no problem doing so. I was really surprised to hear this, but this was coming from AO so I figure they know their shite.

Good luck. I was in Munich for the CL final last year and it was madness. The cheapest hostels were like 60 euros a night. I would try couch surfing if you're comfortable doing that.

I just did Europe and averaged about $40/night per hostel. We found the best hostels in the city though.
If it is $100/night then I really don't care one bit. Life experiences are worth it.

I more than agree. I'm just saying that prices are going to be stupid inflated.
Where did you go in Europe? I just got back too. Also, I went to Rhodes, but only for a year and a half.

I'm in the early stages of planning the trip,
get to Sao Paulo on the 11 watch Brazil play the first game of the tourney on the 12 then stay in SP for a week fly to Rio for a game on the 18 then return
I'm taking donations if any of you OT ballets are feeling generous

Milan > Florence > Rome > Copenhagen > Hamburg > Berlin > Munich > Interlaken > Bern > Zurich
Damn, small world. What years? Do we know each other?
I saw matches in Florence and Hamburg. Fiorentina v. Palermo and Hamburg v. Bayer Leverkusen. I've been planning on posting pics and video...amazing experiences.
I don't even know how to go about planning for a World Cup until matches/destinations are announced. Thankfully I can take the time off work so thats one less variable.
