My wife's friend (no pics of wife, dont want friend) was working in the garden today and happened on this fella

After dispatching it, her husband decided it looked funny so he decided to cut him open. This is what he found--

(also proof that plenty of people from Alabama read TD, he got the feet.)

You can see the lumpy belly in the 1st pic.

I know this is a favorite and go to but it looks like a moccasin to me. Crazy how that much snake fit in him.

Definitely looks like a cottonmouth to me with the short stumpy body and markings but I wasn't sure. The head didn't really help much.

You can also see in the bottom two pics both show the dark stripe on the side of his head. You see that and you have a cottonmouth/water moccasin

Definitely a pit viper.

Question is, what type of snake was inside?

obviously the gentle kind that someone let live to kill something or another....then it attracted a man killer to come up there and eat on it.

Unlike my Ellick brethren, I like to see all of em dead.

He probably ate what you cut out of him, today.

I saw somewhere that within six days, most snakes can dissolve (stomach acid) an entire meal.

When I zoom in I see a rat snake pattern, but the snake is dark and the pattern is faint. Could be something, could be nothing but distortion in the photo.

Don't need to. Last pic shows the single row of scales plain as day.
