re: Anyone remember 72 & 73 FB vs Tulane

Correct, #17, Frank Racine made the saving tackle.
73, we were just coming off a deflating first loss of the year against, yes, Alafreakinbama. We were flat as a pancake for Tulane's biggest game ever.
I got grounded for throwing Oranges at my neighbor's house after that game.(we had sewn up an Orange Bowl bid before Bama). Started 9-0 and finished 9-3 after losing to Ped State in the OB.

They played back to back games in New Orleans because LSU had a glut of home games scheduled. NCAA only allowed 6 or 7 home games back then. Easiest to switch was Tulane, after all, they hadn't beaten the Tigers home or away for 24 years. What's to worry about?

OK, I see that now, 73 had 7 H games without Tu and so it was moved to N.O.; Do you remember when this decision was made, was during season? Other poster right, we had a tough loss to Gumps at home (think this was Thanksgiving nite game?)before and this was tailor made for Green Weenies to pull off the unthinkable! As said I was spared by the Lord this horror show was at home partying with friends from HS that weren't worried about!
Also, why was UF so late (Dec.)? Sorry that was 72
Thanks.
Bring on the Horned Frogs!

72 a shoestring tackle by Casanova? saved the game 9-3 for us @ Tu Stadium,
Close but no cigar. That game saving tackle was made by #17 Frank Racine, not #37 Casanova.

Some plays are burned into your memory and that was one of them.

I was at both the 72 and 73 games. The rivalry with "The Slime" was pretty intense in those days, especially after the 14-0 Slime win in 73. Kinda miss it.

Would rather see us play Tulane in TS every year than any of the out of state "Sisters of the Poor" schools. I'd much prefer Tulane, U.S.L. and La.Tech, than Furman/Kent State/UAB. That's one of an OOC schedule.

M first LSU game 73. I bought the ticket from work.
I was a stock boy at National/Canal Villerie and they promoted Tulane games.

Sometimes with a $25 purchase you could get tickets for $5. I never bought any until the LSU game. My cousin AJ Duhe was a freshaman I think.
So I wasn't very happy after turning down $100 for my ticket at the gate.

Thats what Pete finney said....lots of maintenance work I think....

As for why we quit playing them...they wanted too many home games....they screwed LSU on process in Nola

I went to 8 games at tulane in 72 and 73

Except for the LSU games....it was dang near empty

The decision was made in the off season. There was no surprise here, just too many home games scheduled.

You're right. Casanova's last year was 1971.

Since its on topic, I don't think this would be out of line. I did one of my blog entries on the 1972 LSU-Tulane game and the lead up and paths the progams had taken prior to the game.

Long and "geeky" but if you clicked on the OP's post, you probably like trivia and nostalgia.

Racine - at 185 pounds, tackled 235-pound Weenie FB Bill Huber inside the 1 yard line.

Yeah, nice write up, remember reading this now last year. Still can't believe that 73 game was decidedly moved to N.O. during offseason as other poster alluded and just don't remember this but turned out to be perfect set up for Weenies!
