Anyone remember 72 & 73 FB vs Tulane

Getting near 5 and just browsing through FB history came upon 72 & 73 game vs Greenies wondering why both played in N.O.? Remember both games; 72 a shoestring tackle by Casanova? saved the game 9-3 for us @ Tu Stadium, and I was spared the 73 debacle @ Tu Stadium but remember my parents went and I stayed home to listen on radio in disgust! My dad said the stadium shook especially the upper steel deck where they were, had to get out quick before the Tulane riot!

Remember it like yesterday.

Our family was split between Tulane sides and LSU sides. David Falgoust, a cousin, kicked the two extra points for Tulane in their 14-0 win. It was like the end of the world to me.

These days, you'd never even know that there is a Tulane side of the family. They've all disappeared under a rock. As they say, for there to be a rivalry, both teams have to win from time to time.

In My senior year of HighSchool,'66-'67, I was employed by a local band, "Wild Cherries" that played home and home joint frat parties. Pregame was always friendly enough, but post game, my job was to keep the flying bodies off the equipment. It turned into an old west bar brawl. Awwww the good old days!

I attended the '73 game. It was a nightmare. To make matters worse, I went to hear my brother's band who was playing at a frat party. During the party, the Tulane frat boys brought in a part of the goal post which was torn down. As an LSU fan, it was brutal to watch.

Attended both games. In '73, my wife and I were sitting next to a friend, who was a Tulane fan. When the teams came out for the kickoff, Tulane players were high as a kite. LSU players appeared very flat... no jumping up and down... no banging on each others shoulder pads. I told my friend... this may well be Tulane's game.

We stayed with my grandparents and listened on the radio while my parents went to the game. I remember think my dad was gonna be pissed. He was.

You are correct sir Tu Stadium was bigger (85,000 vs 68,000 TS)at this time, however, does not make sense that series rotate home and away for like what 80 years except these two; that was my curiosity!

1980 was the game LSU 24 Tulane 7! It was sickening all week if you were a Tiger Fan. Tulane had Nickie "Long Ball" "Hall for Heisman" and whatever. All week on TV they had Dave Dixon and all the Tulane nuts. Tulane just knew they were going to beat LSU in Tiger Stadium. At work the Tulane people ran their mouths all week and got louder and louder as Saturday got closer. This was Stovall's first year as Head Coach. Come Saturday it rained its arse off. I was working and a Doctor Friend of mine called me at work and said he was not going because of the rain. He gave me his 50 yard line Tickets. I wore my big Rain Coat from work with a Hood. Big yellow Rain Coat I looked like Big Bird. Risher had a big night in the 24-7 win for LSU. He passed for over 200 yards in a Rain Storm. The Band marched and got soaked. At the end there were only maybe 25,000 LSU Fans remaining and they were loud as hell. Everyone had a big time. Tulane said the game did not count because of the rain. LSU ended 7-4 that year. The most fun I had at any LSU/Tulane Game.

Had similar experience 82 debacle @ TS! What I wondered however was why both those years games played @ N.O.?

They played back to back games in New Orleans because LSU had a glut of home games scheduled. NCAA only allowed 6 or 7 home games back then. Easiest to switch was Tulane, after all, they hadn't beaten the Tigers home or away for 24 years. What's to worry about?

I knew we were dead meat for the 73 game. Some idiot had doubloons minted that said "25 years of undefeated football against Tulane" (or something to that effect). That was the kiss of death.

renovations to what???? the old east upper deck wasn't completed until 1978. so what renovations did they begin? i don't think prior to 1978 that anything but the scoreboards were ever improved since at least 1957.

I think frank Racine made the tackle on the one yard line.
