I just joined a club close to the power plant and I was just wondering if the deer hunting is pretty solid. Club I joined claims to have killed some pretty good bucks. Anyone else hunt this same area that can confirm that 140" bucks aren't that uncommon for this location?

I can confirm. A good friend hunts that area and it seems like he kills one of that size every year.

There are some really good deer in the area. 140" deer are very common.

I am excited as hell to hunt this place. Drove down there today to check the place out. Didn't really go into the woods due to the fact it was hot and rattle snakes move well in warm temps! But it is some good looking woods from what I saw. Lots of hills and bottoms. From what I can gather, most members don't hunt out of box stands much. Mostly climbers, leaning stands, or just sit on the ground. Different style of hunting than I usually do. Of course the area I have been hunting is a whole different world than that so I am willing to adapt!

I own a fairly large piece of land within 2 miles of the power plant. Most of the landowners in the area are on good management programs. You've got an excellent shot at a nice buck.

Sunnyside is the club I joined. You familiar with that one? Bucks on this club have to be 15" inside or 18" main beam. The club next door is supposedly on a 20" inside spread minimum.....I like the fact that one is next door!

I know Sunnyside and all of the clubs and landowners in the area. It's a "small world" from that standpoint. You are in a good area.

Next time you drive up there, look for Sunflowers.

That place is like a petting zoo for deer. My buddy has 3 10 pts named that he can recognize by rack. See 30+ deer a hunt

If you HUNT you will be pleased.

The hills are unforgiving. Learn to shoot well and take shots that give optimal chance of the deer not running off into the bottoms. Get a winch if you don't have one. 100' of quality rope for deer extraction when needed.

I don't know. Didn't see or ask anyone. I just know it is about 2,500 acres that goes all the way down to the river.

I've got a buddy that hunts real close to that club, or may be in that club. It's a jam up spot. We hunt a little south of there.

Great area. Deer are starting to becoming a little nocturnal around there because of the corn feeders. Have big deer in the area though

Orly??? It is my understanding that baiting in MS. is highly illegal during hunting season. Not to mention that Anderson Tully doesn't allow it either. Which from what I understand owns majority of the land in that area. Am I wrong?

You can bait with a feeder if it's 100 yards from your stand and not in your direct line of sight. Meaning you can have a feeder 100 yards away behind a tree or something. That is the MS law. Not sure about A Tully.

What LSUballs said is correct. Therefore, the deer are going to the feeders and night and are tough to see during the day. This isn't the case everywhere, I've just noticed it a little more and more over the years
